“Now come, I will send YOU…”

Exodus 3:10… Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” (NKJV)

Imagine being Moses, listening to God share that He will finally be delivering the Israelites from slavery and thinking, “Awesome! I wonder who He’s picked to lead them out?” Just as that thought is crossing your mind, God says, “Now come, I will send you.’

Wait—what?!?!?

We know that Moses hesitated, piling up excuses until he could no longer resist the Lord’s command. While it’s quite easy to comfortably shake our heads at His reluctance, are we Christians guilty of similar reluctance?

We are given a similar command: “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel…” (Mark 16:15)

and:

“preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” (2 Timothy 4:2)

These are imperative sentences, which means a command is being given to someone. It essentially says, “YOU go… YOU preach, YOU be ready.”

The Lord is the deliverer, but He calls us to be His messenger. Do we make excuses like Moses initially did, or are we even now obeying Jesus’ call?

“Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.

I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to deliver them.  And now come, I will send you to Egypt.’”

Acts 7:33-34 ESV
