“The Right Words”
Proverbs 15:1… A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. (KJV)
Friends, the words that we speak, and the tone of our voice can destroy a relationship, can cost us our job, and can create many other negative reactions that I would be quite sure God would not approve of… But by using the right words in the right tone of voice, can stop a possible confrontation dead in it’s tracks !!
My grandmother would recite the opening scripture to us every time she caught me and/or my 2 sisters in an argument over whatever kids at our young age would fight over…
The words “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger“ didn’t make much sense to us kids who were only 4, 5, or 6 years old… But hearing that scripture verse enough times has stuck in my mind 65 years later !!
The words that we speak will show those around us what is truly in our heart… Scripture tells us thus with words spoken by Jesus, and recorded by the Apostle Matthew, in…
Matthew 15:18-19… But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. (NKJV)
God’s Word also teaches us this about the words that we speak, written by the Apostle Paul, in…
Ephesians 4:29… Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. (NKJV)
We should think before we open our mouth, and speak only words that will build a person up…not tear them down… This will “impart grace to the hearers”, just like the grace that Jesus shows His redeemed, “born again” children, each and every day of their lives…
The Apostle James has this to say about our tongue, in…
James 3:8-9… But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. (NKJV)
But there is someone that can help us control our tongue, so that we won’t lash back in anger to someone screaming in our face !! And that “someone” is the Holy Spirit that God indwells every “born again” Christian with, to help them with their words, their actions, and their deeds in order to be able to live lives that are pleasing to God !!
So many people say they are Christians, but they are Christians in name only… Only God can turn a heart of stone into a heart of flesh filled with the love of Christ… We see this very plainly expressed by God in this scripture…
Ezekiel 36:26-28… I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. 28 Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God. (NKJV)
So what does God use to change a heart of stone into a heart filled with the love of Christ ?? God uses His Word, the Bible…Pastors with their sharing of the gospel of Christ…and everyday believers like myself that have been commanded by Jesus Christ Himself to share the gospel, in His last spoken word to His disciples (and us) before ascending into heaven…
Matthew 28:19-20… Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (NKJV)
Yes, we as “born again” Christians have been commanded to share our testimony and/or the gospel of Christ with those around us who are not yet saved by God’s grace alone, by saving faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ… These unbelievers must understand the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and obey it in order to have their lifetime of sins forgiven and cleansed from their body by the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary… Failure to do so before we die can separate us from God for an eternity… God clearly tells us this in this scripture written by the Apostle Paul, in…
2 Thessalonians 1:8-9… in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (NKJV)
The gospel (meaning good news) message of our Lord Jesus Christ is presented in the P.S. below, for those who want to seek the Lord while He may still be found (Isaiah 55:6-7) before they die… My friends, the Bible does not speak of Purgatory… If you pass on before becoming a “born again” Christian you will die in your sins, and be separated by God forever…
John 8:24… “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” (NKJV)
Friends you must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He died on the cross, was buried, and rose from the grave… You must confess your sins with godly sorrow, and a repentant heart…seeking Jesus Christ to come into your heart to guide and direct you in all you say and do…
Gracious God and heavenly Father, I pray You would open the eyes of those that don’t yet know Your Son Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior… Your Word is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword…Hebrews 4:12… I pray that You would draw them in (John 6:44), and I pray that you would urge them to open and obey Your good news message of the cross found below… I pray that You would change many hearts and lives today, by gracing them with salvation; and that they would continue to walk in and by the full power of the Holy Spirit You have given all believers, to live lives that will be pleasing to You… I pray for all of this in Jesus’ most precious name, and for His sake…Amen
Blessings in Christ, bruce
