Living Waters: Scripture Writing Plan August 2021

We’ve been deluged with quite a bit of rain in West Texas. In fact, we’ve had so much rain that apparently we are no longer in a drought. After we bought our house and property, we had several brutal thunderstorms (about 4 of which included flash flooding). We now have a view of a lake on the properties to the west, and have enjoyed the view of snowy white Egrets, mallard ducks, and Black-crowned night herons. As difficult as the ordeal has been (our roads have been underwater at least 4 times!), I keep reminding myself that all this water is indeed a blessing. Whenever I am tempted to complain, I remind myself how much we need it…

Water is vital to life. We cannot survive without it.

It is also fascinating to me how often water is talked about and used throughout the scriptures. Water was used to cleanse the earth after it had become overrun by sin; the faithful were delivered by it.

Moses gets his name because he was “drawn from the water,” water delivered him from the death sentence pronounced upon him by the Egyptians.

The Israelites were saved from the Egyptian army after God made a path for them through the Red Sea.

They crossed into the promised land through the thrashing Jordan River after God once again made a path.

Isaiah speaks of living water.

Jesus references being born of water and the spirit.

While we on earth have to conserve this scarce resource, God provides us with living water through Christ.

I hope you will join me in writing through these scriptures that deal with the life-giving water of the Lord!
