“Why I need God, because I don’t read the Bible as a born again Christian”

Every man, woman, and child, old enough to understand and obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ [See 1. below], needs God in total control of their lives, whether they know this now, or not !! This is a statement of fact, if you’re a “born again” Christian, where there is no room for debate… I will discuss more about this later in the post…

I continue this series of posts, for every person I am friends with, including my Facebook friends, whether I know them personally or not !!  When it comes to “Why I need God !!…this includes some atheists I know, at one end of the spectrum…all the way to the “born again” Christian at the other end of the spectrum, who is doing their absolute best to walk with the Lord as a “Spirit filled” Christian…(Ephesians 5:18-20)   [If you missed part 1 on needing God because of your addiction to…see 2. Below]

You say you are a “born again” Christian, and you spend little or no time in reading the Bible ??  Jesus makes it clear, that we need to be fed spiritually (hopefully every day), just like we need food and water to survive…  We see this penned twice in Matthew 4:4…&…Luke 4:4

Matthew 4:4…  But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”  (NKJV)

When we spend time reading the Bible as God’s redeemed children, God writes scripture on our hearts and in our minds that we can draw from, when the trials of life and Satan’s temptations to sin try to bring us down…  God speaks to us through reading His Word, that will edify us, and build us up in ways that give us needed truth that will set us free from Satan’s bonds of sin and shame…  I am reminded of this scripture spoken by Jesus in…

John 8:31-32…  So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  (ESV)

You want to be set free from temptations from Satan or your own unredeemed carnal flesh to sin ??  Here is perhaps the most important reason you will benefit from spending time diligently reading God’s Word…  Look at this scripture penned by the Apostle Paul, in…

Galatians 5:16…  But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (ESV)    [See 3. below, for an amazing commentary on …Galatians 5:16

You say you don’t read the Bible because you don’t understand it ??  To help you understand scripture, God gives His redeemed children the Holy Spirit, at the time God graces them with the free gift of salvation…   The Holy Spirit will help them in all facets of their lives…including what is termed the “illumination” of scripture…  Jesus told us about how the Holy Spirit would come to be the Helper to all of His redeemed children, in…

John 14:26…   But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.  (ESV)

But the Holy Spirit is not going to help us, unless we rid our heart and mind of any hidden sins that are lurking there…  And make no mistake about it…not spending time in God’s Word, and not placing God above all else, is a sin…  These are sometimes hidden sins, known as the “sin of omission”, that we see the Apostle James pen, in…

James 4:17…  So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.  (ESV)

To get rid of any known sins…the Apostle John gives us this scripture, penned in…1 John 1:9…  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.   (NKJV)

I personally pray to God every morning, before I start my day…to show me any hidden sins, just like King David did, in…

Psalm 139:23-24…  Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.  (NKJV)

With our sins confessed, repented of, and turned from…we are free to start “abiding in the Word, as Jesus told us in…John 8:31-32…above…  It’s by reading and digesting the Word of God, that we learn how to live lives that will be pleasing to God…  And it is in the Word, that the apostle Paul reveals the secret to keeping Satan in check, in…Ephesians 6:10-20…  In this scripture, we read this…

Ephesians 6:11-12   Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  (NKJV)

If you are living in this world of sin and shame, without the full protection of God’s spiritual armor, and the Holy Spirit to go before you to keep Satan and his evil fallen angels in check…you are headed down a path that that the Bible tells us will lead to destruction…

Matthew 7:13-14   “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.  (NKJV)

My friends, we have to read the Word (the sword of the Spirit), to learn about, and to put on God’s whole 6 piece set of Spiritual armor, piece by piece…   But to keep Satan in check, requires a combination of not only reading the Word…but we also need to submit our lives to God, in order to have the devil flee from us…

James 4:7-8…  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  (ESV)

I spent a day writing about these 2 pieces of scripture (Ephesians 6:10-20…&…James 4:7-8) , that I titled…”God’s Duo”, for anyone interested in how I personally have kept Satan in check (most of the time), by the FULL power of the Holy Spirit, if He is left in total control of all that I say and do…  Do I still sin ??  Absolutely !!  But to God be the glory for His presence and power in my life !!  [See 4. below for my post…”God’s Duo”]

Finding the time to read the Bible every day may seem daunting at first…  But you will find that feeding your spirit can not only help you grow in spiritual knowledge and wisdom…you just might find it is the most enjoyable part of your day !!  In 5. below, you will find a link for an app where you can read (or listen) to the scripture and commentary to read (or listen to) the Bible in a year !!…  By being able to listen to scripture with commentary audibly, no one should have a problem sometime during every day to spend time in the Word !!  Imagine being able to go through the entire Bible in a year !!

Are you tired of an uphill struggle in your life ??  Think about it…  Once God is behind you, anything man can do to you in this life will pale, when compared to a life God will bless and reward His obedient children with who diligently seek Him…  We see the writer of Hebrews pen this, in…

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him(NKJV)

These rewards are not only for here and now, with the blessings of spiritual fruit God promises to shower upon His obedient children… They are eternal, with the absolute 100% guarantee you will be in heaven face to face with Jesus, when you breath your last breathe here on earth !! (2 Corinthians 5:8)    Look at this list of 9 spiritual fruit (penned by the apostle Paul), that God wants you to grow and mature, as you spend time in the Word and submit your life to the Lord !!

Galatians 5:22-23…  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  (ESV)

These spiritual fruit will bless you beyond mortal comprehension, as you walk in and by the power of the Holy Spirit…(Galatians 5:16

Why would you want to tackle life’s trials and tribulations in your own strength, with no hope set before you ??  Since God doesn’t make any mistakes, why don’t you consider looking to Him to direct your path in life ??

Proverbs 3:5-6…  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  (NKJV)

When I look at this list of “Christ-like” attributes God wants you to possess, in …Galatians 5:22-23love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…wouldn’t it be nice to be able to love everyone around you, no matter what ??

Gracious God and heavenly Father…I pray that Your living and powerful Word (Hebrews 4:12), will work on the hearts and minds of those that don’t spend any or little time in Your life changing Word…  I pray Father that You will draw in those who are not yet “born again” believers (John 6:44)…and that they would open the gospel presentation in 1. below, and seek Your Son Jesus Christ to become their personal Lord and Savior…  I pray Father, that those “born again” believers that are not being spiritually fed most every day by spending time in Your Word, would realize that they are sinning, and be urged by the Holy Spirit to feed their soul on a regular basis…   I pray for lives to be changed by You right now, so that spending time in the Bible would become as necessary to daily living, as food and water…  I pray for everyone reading these words to be blessed by You beyond belief…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce

  1. God has to be speaking to His children because I just did a post about loving the Word of God as well. Too many are NOT getting into it. They don’t read it, let alone study it! It’s up to us Brother to keep “encouraging” and admonishing our Brothers and Sisters to do just that! Good Word!
