“Search me OH God !!”

Psalm 139:23-24…  Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.  (NKJV)

This scripture was penned by King David, who wrote half of the Book of Psalms…  David had seen God guide and protect him from an early age…  David was the youngest of 8 sons of Jessie; and we see David was given the task in his teens to watch his fathers sheep…  David had killed both lion and bear with his sling while watching his fathers sheep…  You can read all about David, and his taking down Goliath with a sling and one smooth stone, in…1 Samuel 17…  [See 1. Below for this scripture]

We can learn much from King David’s writing in the Book of Psalms…  God had chosen David to be a man after His own heart (1 Samuel 13:14), and David knew God would take care of him, because God had always done so in the past…

If you’re a “born again” Christian, trying to understand what God wants for your life, obeying the Holy Spirit is a learning process…and comes with spiritual maturity as we read, digest, and apply God’s Word to our lives…  But we will never understand everything God has planned for us, because God’s ways and mans ways are totally different…

Isaiah 55:8-9…  “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”  (NKJV)

But if we are diligent in reading the Word for our spiritual nourishment, hopefully every day (Matthew 4:4 & Luke 4:4); and if we are in prayer to God morning, noon, and night (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18), and patiently listen to God’s response to our prayers through reading the Word, and

through taking time as we pray, to just stop and listen for God’s response…(Psalm 46:10), we will get better and better at living a “Spirit-filled”, “Christ-centered” life that will be pleasing to the Lord…  Will we live our lives without making mistakes ??  Heck no !!  But when we are blessed by God over and over again (like King David), for doing what is right in God’s eyes…we will hopefully finally realize that God is sovereign, and doesn’t make any mistakes…

King David knew this, and that is why throughout the Psalms, he constantly placed his faith and trust in God to deliver him out of the many tough situations King David found himself in…

How do we as believers learn to be diligent in our pursuit of pleasing God ??  We do as King David did in the opening scripture…  We pray… “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”

I make this prayer asking God to show me any hidden sins I have residing in my heart almost every morning, before I start my day…  You see our hearts are deceitful above all things, as we see penned by Jeremiah in…

Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?  10  I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.”  (NKJV)

God promises that if we pray for anything that is in His will, He hears us…1 John 5:14-15…  But don’t ask God to search your heart for hidden sins…and then fail to confess, repent, and turn from any sins God will reveal, through the indwelling Holy Spirit residing in your heart…  This is like slapping God in the face, by not responding to the urging of the Holy Spirit that is convicting you to do what is right in God’s eyes…

Do you want to walk worthy of the calling God has given you ??  [Ephesians 4:1 & 1 Thessalonians 2:12]    Then do as the apostle John pens in…1 John 1:9…  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  (NKJV)

With our sins God has revealed to us confessed, repented of, and turned from…we are at that moment in time filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18-20), and are then able to walk in and by the power of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16)…  This walk with the Lord is a moment my moment walk, as you will clearly see in a commentary I pray you read on…Galatians 5:16…  [See 2. Below]

Being consistent to do your best to walk in the Spirit, can only be accomplished by the “born again” Christian, if they have a burning desire to live their lives as perfect as Jesus Christ has called us to be, in…

Matthew 5:48…  Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.  (NKJV)

My friends the rewards God will abundantly bless His diligent children who walk as perfectly as humanly possible in obedience to the urging of the Holy Spirit, have to be experienced to be believed…

Hebrews 11:6…  But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.  (NKJV)

These rewards the writer of Hebrews pens in this scripture above, are not monetary rewards…  They are spiritual rewards as penned by the apostle Paul, for believers that consistently do their best to walk in obedience to the urging of the Holy Spirit…

Galatians 5:22-23…  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  (ESV)

Read this scripture verse slowly, and let all 9 of these God given “fruit of the Spirit” reveal Christ’s attributes that can be yours as well !!  A life lived by the “born again” Christian, that will bring joy to the Lord, starts by being bold to ask “Search me, O God, and know my heart”

I spent a day writing about what I believe to be the 3 most important pieces of scripture for the “born again” Christian, that can all be found in today’s writing…   Go to Reference 3. Below to read what I believe to be my most important post for the Christian, in over 10 years !!

  1. Years ago when I was newly saved, I prayed to be like David, mainly because of the phrase, “a man after God’s own heart.” I learned through years of stumbling to be careful in praying to be like someone else for I truly DID stumble and had to learn as David did in God’s forgiveness, patience and unconditional love. I no longer pray prayers like that. The only One I desire to be like is Jesus, Himself. But when we are young in the Lord, it is easy to fall into that. God’s love and patience however will ALWAYS see us through! Great post brother. Going to share it to my group! 💗✝📖😇🕊
