This Sunday at Church: Pray that the Sermon Would not be Watered Down

For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Pray that the Sermon Would not be Watered Down.

Those who are pastors reading this I hope you don’t feel attacked (I’m a pastor too).  But this is something we should have our members pray about our preaching.  Even if you don’t shrink back from preaching God’s Word accurately and you do mention things like sin, hell, etc.  We can never have too many prayers about this!  And pray this too yourself!

For those who don’t preach and teach on Sunday, pray but also consider that this responsibility is not easy.  The Word of God has implications for every sphere of life and sometimes people don’t like what the implications are.  Or it’s not easy to speak the truth week after week without being discouraged.  I think in my immediate theological circle I think more likely pastors aren’t going to go on the deep end of preaching overt heresies but more likely they get discouraged that their church members don’t want to grow in solid and sound doctrines or deeper into the Word.  So they just decide to pour less time into the studies and less effort, for the effort and studies aren’t appreciated.  So begins the slide…

 I can imagine a few more other scenarios.  Fear of man.  Rabbit trails away from the Gospel.  But it is suffice to say for now this is worth praying about!
