“Our debt has been paid”

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Isaiah 7:14

Around the year 734 B.C., God gave Isaiah this prophecy concerning the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. God gave it to us as a sign from Heaven concerning the miraculous birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. And centuries later, Christ would be born in Bethlehem, the City of David, just a God had foretold it to the prophet.

There is much we don’t know about the birth of Jesus. But we know all we need to know. We don’t know how much he weighed, how long he was, or what color eyes and hair he had. We don’t know how many Kings traveled from the east to worship him. We don’t know how long it took them to make the trip and find the place of Jesus’ birth. We don’t know if Mary rode a donkey all the way from Nazareth to Bethlehem. We don’t know the exact time of His birth. We don’t know how many different types of animals were near or around when He was born. But we know all we need to know!

Jesus was born at the exact time and place that God willed. He was born the Son of God. He lived a life of sinless perfection, marching toward Calvary’s cross each day. He was crucified for my sins, for your sins, and for all the sins of mankind on that cross. After He died, He was buried in a tomb. And on the 3rd day He arose from the dead! And He lives forever in complete victory and triumph over death and sin.

This morning I worship Christ the Lord. He is worth the worship. For you see, He paid a debt we could never pay. He gave us a gift we never could earn or deserve. And He did all that, because He still cares for you and for me. Merry Christmas everyone!
