A Prayer on John 2:1-11

Dear Father,

As we enter this new week, grant us as we worship You in our homes, workplaces and everywhere we live and have our being to do so to affect your world for Jesus. Jesus, You changed water into wine at the wedding in Cana. We pray You would perform similar work in us today. Wine represents joy in the Bible, but we live in a time where joy is hard for many of us. Change the stagnant water of our lives to wine.

This wedding feast is a picture of the nation. While we face supply chain issues and rising prices, things are running out around us. For Israel: the wine had run out, the people’s supply was emptied, yet their Messiah stood there to help them and us. The empty water pots represent the human heart, which is hard and empty. In our woke culture today we have lost the ability to forgive.

Our hearts have lost sight of the fact that we are all flawed, fragile beings that are far from perfection. “7 But we have this treasure in clay pots so that the awesome power belongs to God and doesn’t come from us.” 2 Cor 4:7

And we pray for our leaders. Give the leaders of our world the courage to deal with the issues of poverty, injustice, famine, disease, and human suffering. Give them the foresight to guide a new world where self-interest is restrained and regulated by love and compassion and a yearning for justice. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
