“The young at heart”

Now also when I am old and gray-headed, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.

Psalm 71:18

Psalm 71 is the prayer of an old man. When an old man begins to look back at his life, he sees God’s protecting hand over him each day that has passed. He prays for God to be with him today, and the days which may follow. And he understands that so long as God grants him breath and life, God still has purpose for him. He remembers what God has taught him from his youth. And that remembrance causes him to declare the wondrous works of God. And if that old man still has his mental faculties, all of this causes Him to praise and thank his Creator.

One of the things God has taught me is that there will always be wars and rumors of war. He has taught me to long for peace but be prepared for war. And I have learned that it is not always the size of the dog in the fight that determines the winner of a war, but it is the size of the fight that is the dog.

This morning I pray for my country. We need God’s direction and leadership. We need to find the heart and will of God as we act and react to aggression against freedom from tyrannical governments that are in power in various areas of the world. And we need to remember as Christians are persecuted all over the world this morning, that God is still on His throne. We need to pray that God’s will be accomplished in our life, more especially as our time on earth grows shorter with each coming and passing day. For you see, even if you are old and gray headed, God still desires to use you today, perhaps in ways you never thought possible.
