Ministry and Revelation 21:4

I’ll have a busy day with ministry today.  Pastoral visitation in the morning and also an evening with a memorial for a member who passed away unexpectedly.

It got me thinking about a verse.  Revelation 21:4.

Revelation 21:4 states:

and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

This is such an amazing truth.

Amazing since in our time on earth there will be mourning, crying, pain and death.

And here’s a promise that they will one day be no more.

And God will comfort us is the basis for that being one day no more.

This incredible verse must be seen in the context of the chapter.

Revelation 21 is about the New Heaven and New Earth that’s coming one day.

But not everyone goes there.  Because of sin we read in Revelation 21:8 about judgment for sinners:

But for the cowardly, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Of course, we all have sinned.  But we can be saved!  Two verses earlier in Revelation 21:6 it draws us to look to Jesus:

Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give water to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life, without cost.

Jesus came to die for the sins of those who would trust in Him.  This is a free gift of grace.  But you got to trust in Him.

Trust in Him today.  You never know when you leave this world and enter eternity.  Have you trusted in Him?
