‘Has the Holy Spirit confirmed you are a “born again” Christian??’
Romans 8:16… The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (NKJV)
The Apostle John tells us the same thing in this scripture confirming that “born again” believers are God’s redeemed, children…
1 John 5:12-12-3… He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. (NKJV)
Do you have this confidence that you know you will be heaven bound when you die ?? Becoming a “born again” Christian starts with understanding and obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ… [See P.S. below for a gospel presentation]
I love to share the “good news” gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ when the Holy Spirit living within me urges me to speak to someone about how they can be 100% sure they will be face to face with Jesus, the moment they breathe their last breath here on earth…
2 Corinthians 5:6-8… So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. (NKJV)
The word “gospel” means good news… Yes, the message of the cross is a good news message that EVERY “born again” believer has been commanded by Jesus to share with those in their circle of influence that is not yet a redeemed, child of God… I say it is a command because we see it here in Jesus’ last spoken words to His disciples (and us) before He ascended into heaven…
Matthew 28:19-20… Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (NKJV)
One of my approaches to someone I want to share the gospel of Christ with, starts with this question… Do you think you will go to heaven when you die ??” The response most often given is, “I hope so”, or I am a good person, so I believe God will let me into heaven… There is a whole list of reasons that people will falsely believe they are heaven bound when they die… Here are just a few:
-
A) They go to church every week.
-
B) Their good far outweighs their bad.
-
C) They do all kinds of good things for the Lord, like visiting old people in a home for the elderly.
-
D) They have fulfilled the 7 Sacraments their church has told them they must do, in order to have a chance of getting into heaven.
-
E) They do their best to obey the 10 Commandments.
I could list a whole lot more reasons unbelievers will give for why they hope they will get into heaven…but none of these are found in God’s inerrant, infallible Word, the Bible… I found an excellent answer to what it means that the Bible is infallible, in a link found in Ref. 1) below…
Here are two pieces of scripture that refute these false reasons someone believes they are going to heaven because of their works…
Ephesians 2:8-9… For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. (NKJV)
One is saved by God’s gift of grace alone, through saving faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ… It’s not about doing all these good works done in the name of the Lord that will save someone from eternal damnation, and separation from God for eternity when they die…
We also see this same idea about it not being good works done in the name of the Lord to get into heaven, in quite possibly the most eye-opening scripture found in the Bible about good works getting an unbeliever into heaven… This is Jesus speaking to people that have died, and are standing at the gates of heaven to get in… Here are Jesus’ words…
Matthew 7:21-23… “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘Inever knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ (NKJV)
Jesus is telling them He never knew them as His redeemed, “born again” child… Jesus then tells them to “depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’…
Those who “practice lawlessness!” are those who believe they can follow the laws of their faith and do good works in order to get into heaven… Jesus turns them away into everlasting destruction… We see this very clearly in this scripture…
2 Thessalonians 1:8-9… in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who donot know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (NKJV)
We can also see by looking at the opposite of what this scripture teaches us, on who and how a person can get past those pearly white gates of heaven, to spend eternity with Jesus along with all the other redeemed, “born again” believers…
We must KNOW God, by establishing an intimate relationship with God, where He speaks to us through His Word, the Bible…and when we are indwelt with the Holy Spirit, we will 100% know we are redeemed children of the King, as we see in the opening scripture…
Romans 8:16… The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (NKJV)
God indwells His redeemed, “born again” children with the Holy Spirit to guide and direct every facet of their lives after they understand and “obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Jesus shed His blood at the cross of Calvary to cleanse away the sins of those who humble themselves under the mighty arm of God, understanding they can in no way make it into heaven by doing “good works” in the name of the Lord… They must confess their lifetime of sins to God, asking Him for the forgiveness of these sins, when they pray to God with godly sorrow and a repentant heart… God knows what is in the heart and mind of every human being… And God will know when you pray to Him with ALL of your heart, mind, soul, and strength… You are also to pray to God to send His Son Jesus into your heart, to guide and direct your life from this day forward… This is the “good news” gospel of Christ…
Gracious God and heavenly Father…Your Word is living and powerful…(Hebrews 4:12). I pray that it would so move those not yet one of Your redeemed, “born again” children, that they would pray this prayer of salvation to You… I pray that after You draw them in (John 6:44), and the Holy Spirit urges them to seek the Lord Jesus Christ to become their personal Lord and Savior…they would come to You with this prayer with a heart that You can see means every word they prayed in order to become one of Your redeemed children… I thank You now, Father, for the lives that You will change forever, in the blink of an eye…and I am making this prayer to You in Jesus’ most precious name, and for His sake…Amen…
Blessings in Christ, bruce
