“Choose the good part”

But one thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Luke 10:42

Martha was a lady of service. She was a hard worker. And Martha made preparations to feed her guests and to serve them physical bread. But Mary sat at Jesus’ feet. And as she sat, the Bible proclaims that she “HEARD HIS WORD”. Mary listened carefully to all Jesus said. And during the process of that, she forgot about the supper while focusing on the Savior.

Sometimes we are like Martha, Mary’s sister. We get so involved with the details of the “sauce” that we neglect to hear the SAVIOR. It even happens in church services. People will miss the entire sermon to go to the kitchen and prepare to serve supper. And when we miss a sermon that proclaims Jesus as Savior, we can miss the ONE THING THAT IS NEEDFUL.

You see, Jesus IS the Bread of Life. He offers us something much more important than physical food. Jesus offers Himself as the Bread of Life who came down from Heaven in the flesh of man, to save us from our sins. He offers us Living Water, which of those who drink, shall never thirst. And He offers us the BREAD of LIFE, that those who accept His sacrifice for their sins shall never hunger. Jesus is the ONE THING NEEDFUL. Don’t miss the Savior while focusing on the sauce. For if you do, you will miss the ONE needful thing! And the good part is usually the BEST PART!
