What Would Jesus Do?—Are You Sure? – Jimmy Akin

“Look Before You Leap”

Proverbs 4:25… Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you.  (NKJV)

Do you remember when you were back in school when you were taking a test ??  The teacher would always tell the students to keep their eyes looking straight ahead…  That was good advice then; because it kept you from being tempted to cheat off of your fellow student’s test paper…

Well the opening scripture was written by the wise King Solomon almost 3000 years ago… Researchers believe he wrote over 3000 proverbs and over 1000 songs…  God gave Solomon wisdom that surpassed anyone living before him, or after him…1 Kings 3:9-14… And because he only humbly asked God for wisdom to take over his father, King David’s kingdom, and nothing else…God also made him the wealthiest man alive…  I remember doing a study some time ago, about Solomon’s wealth, with just his gold… I believe it turned out to be like 15 times as much money at today’s gold price, as the richest man alive today…

Solomon wrote half of the Book of Proverbs; and what he wrote, is filled with his wisdom for us to learn by…  Solomon is giving us this advice in the opening scripture, as a way to keep us out of trouble…  I surmise that this was his intent, because of what Solomon writes 2 verses later, in…

Proverbs 4:27… Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.  (NKJV)

As Christians, if we want to help ourselves live in a manner that is pleasing to the Lord, Solomon’s advice is right on the mark…  Let’s say you see a co-worker known to have a drinking problem, walk into a bar after work; and you’re concerned with their wellbeing…  Don’t you dare walk into to that bar to speak with them…  Speak with them at a place that won’t entice you to fall into sin yourself…  There are two pieces of additional scripture that suggest we think twice, before we put ourselves in a bad situation…

1 Corinthians 10:12Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.  (NKJV)

Galatians 6:1… Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespassyou who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentlenessconsidering yourself lest you also be tempted.  (NKJV)

And if you’re a teen, how about that party your high school friend is giving; and you hear that there will be liquor or drugs there, for those who want to indulge themselves…  If you are a Christian, you’re asking for trouble if you decide to go…  That is, if you’re trying to live your life in a way that will please your Father in heaven…

Solomon gives Christians good advice in this scripture right after the opening verse, in…

Proverbs 4:26… Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established.  (NKJV)

I will finish today’s thoughts, with one of my favorite pieces of scripture written by the wise Solomon… If the Christian whole heartily follows Solomon’s advice…they will be one step ahead of Satan, and his bag of temptations he uses to snare the Christian who isn’t paying attention to living their lives for the Lord…

Proverbs 3:5-6… Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understandingIn all your ways acknowledge HimAnd He shall direct your paths.  (NKJV)

God wants all of His children to trust in Him for everything…  And since God never makes a mistake, we will always be doing the right thing, if we listen to the urging of the Holy Spirit…

Heavenly Father, help all of Your children learn to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit You have given them as a lifelong Helper (John 14:26)… Help all of Your children Lord, keep looking forward, and up to You; as You help us in our daily struggle to live in this world that is filled with Satan’s temptations, and our own fleshly desires…  I pray for Your blessings and Your peace to fall upon all of us…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ, bruce
