John 10:4… And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. (NKJV)
The opening scripture came out of recommended reading in the “Our Daily Bread” devotion I read yesterday morning… It was titled “Tuning In”… The opening of this devotion sort of went along with what I wrote about yesterday, that was titled…“Listening is the Key”… The author of the “ODB” admitted that when he was deep in thought, he tuned out everything around him…including his wife… I have also been accused by my wife, that what she says goes in one ear and out the other !! Or…that I have selective hearing…
All of us need to be aware of those around us that are speaking to us…especially if what they are trying to tell us is for our own good… I admitted that I have been a horrible listener; and that I am going to try and work on this major flaw in my character…
The “ODB” devotion goes on to tell us that as Christians; we need to be keenly aware of the Holy Spirit with-in us, when He urges us to follow Him… If we decide to turn our backs on our Helper, the Holy Spirit…we will ALWAYS be making a mistake…
I wrote last week about how one-sided my life had become in recent years… Though I do not believe it is possible to love the Lord to much…I have finally realized that there must be a balance between always living for the Lord…at the neglect of my family and others that are an important part of my life… Here is the link for this writing about proper balance in one’s life, which I have titled… “Family Matters”… https://godsmanforever.wordpress.com/2012/08/29/gods-group-thoughts-for-8292012-family-matters/
We as Christians are called to always try and be the sheep that hears, and then follows his Master… When we decide our way is better than the Lord’s way, we will be heading down the wrong path that is filled with the pitfalls and snares that Satan and our own flesh will use to take our focus off of the Lord…
Life is a balancing act… Those that are out there working to pay the bills must not forget that it is God that gives them everything they have (Matthew 6:33)… God must be first in the Christians life…or they are headed in the wrong direction… But the Christian, who has finally matured enough to be Spirit filled most of the time, must always remember that their spouse and then children must come second…and others around them next… The job and the material stuff should come last…
Heavenly Father, I pray that You will help all of Your children to properly balance our lives… Help us Lord, with each and every imperfection we may have… Help us Lord, to be in a continuous state of becoming more “Christ like”…as You bless us with whatever amount of time we have left here on earth… I pray for this continued process of sanctification for all of Your children…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
