Luke 22:41-42And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”  (NKJV)

Luke records Jesus’ prayer to His Father in heaven, in the opening scripture…  Jesus’ prayer shows us Jesus’ fully human side…  This cup Jesus is speaking of is the cup of divine wrath Jesus knows He will have to bare on the cross… Jesus took on all of the past, present, and future sins of those who by faith alone in Jesus Christ, earnestly seek Him to become their personal Lord, their Master, and their Savior…

Philippians 3:9and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;  (NKJV)

I hear so often that sinners have accepted Christ as their personal Savior… But it is God who is the One who accepts us into His family, when God gives the sinner the righteousness of His only Son; after they as repentant sinners understand and obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9)…2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (NKJV)

Jesus always did the will of His Father in heaven…even though we can see that if He had is own way, He would have gladly allowed His Father to somehow take away this divine wrath Jesus knew He would have to bare…  This shows the absolute obedience Jesus had to the will of His Father…  Christians are also called to live their lives in obedience to the Lord…

Once Christians are saved by God’s pure grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ; they should understand that their lives should not revert back to their former lusts and sins those still living in the world fall prey to (1 John 2:15-16)… This is because Christians have been set apart from the world, which just doesn’t understand God’s grace…

1Peter 1:13-14Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;  (NKJV)

To remain righteous in God’s eyes, a Christian must live in obedience to the Lord and His will…not to their own selfish desires to feed their own flesh, or fall prey to the temptations Satan will try to ensnare them with…Romans 6:16…   Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?  (NKJV)

As Christians, we are weak in our own strength…  We will easily fall prey to Satan and our own selfish desires, unless we allow the Holy Spirit to control our lives… Anything less than living for the Lord, will have us living in disobedience, leading to unrighteousness and away from the will of God…

Heavenly Father, I pray that You would urge all Christians to take a serious look at who they obey… I pray Lord, that their decision to live in obedience to Your will and Your ways would become an every day priority in their lives… Help all of Your children Lord, in their quest to remain righteous in Your sight… I pray for this peace from righteousness for all of us, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
