Read Galatians 5, Isaiah 58:6-11
Let Freedom Ring!
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1 (NKJV)
The idea that we are born with an inherited birth defect called sin is not a very popular concept these days. Enlightened humanists and liberal politicians have ignored the reality of original sin to our peril. Liberals and humanists say that all crime stems from a bad environment, and that if we improve the environment we will eliminate crime and have utopia. The razed housing projects in many major cities belie that myth.
The disobedience of Adam and Eve caused all mankind to be kicked out of paradise and to be separated from God. Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. Romans 5:12 (NKJV)
The “good news” is that by His death on the cross, Jesus Christ has ended the separation from God and freed all who believe from eternal death! But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. Romans 6:22 (NKJV)
Think about it! For the very first time, we are free from bondage and domination by sin. We can actually, with the power of the Holy Spirit living within us live a life fully pleasing to God and bearing the fruit of the Spirit.
Although we may momentarily stumble and fall into sins of the flesh, we are no longer sinners, but saints No longer can we use the excuse “I’m only human” to justify our continual sinful behavior. We are no longer slaves to sin, but slaves of righteousness and our love of God leaves us no choice but to want to do the things that please Him. Shouldn’t we start rejoicing and living in our freedom?
Father, thank You for setting me free from sin so that I can become a slave to Your righteousness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
