2 Corinthians 1:3-4… Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (NKJV)
I drew today’s title from a Christmas song that was published back in 1833, titled… “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman”… Here is a link to the lyrics… http://www.carols.org.uk/god_rest_ye_merry_gent1emen.htm
The Apostle Paul wrote the opening scripture… Indeed, God the Father is the “Father of mercies and God of all comfort” to those that become Christians; when they are filled with the Holy Spirit at the moment they are saved from their lifetime of sins…Acts 2:1-5…
It is absolutely amazing to me, that the Apostle Paul could go through so much suffering for Christ; and still be able to find comfort from the Holy Spirit through all his tribulations… For those who have never read about what the Apostle Paul suffered for Christ, here is the link to the scripture… http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2cor11:22-28&version=NKJV
Jesus, when He was telling His disciples that He was going to have to leave them to be with His Father, told them about the Helper (the Holy Spirit), that His Father was going to send down to them later…to help them remember all things He had taught them…John 14:26… But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. (NKJV)
I quote this scripture often, because it should be a comfort to all of God’s children as well… The KJV version of John 14:26…substitutes “Comforter” in place of “Helper”…
As Christians, we should be doing exactly as the Apostle Paul tells the Corinthians, in the opening scripture… As we are comforted by the Holy Spirit, with His peace and joy…we should “pay it forward”, just like the young boy in the movie… But to be able to pass on to others this Spirit given supernatural peace (Philippians 4:6-7) and comfort in our lives…we must first let the Holy Spirit take full control of our own lives… We as Christians must confess and turn from all of our sins (1 John 1:9)…and allow the fullness of God to take charge of our lives… As we walk in the Spirit, the love of Christ will fill our hearts with His agape love, and the comfort and joy of knowing we are resting in God’s hands…
The Apostle Paul explains Christ’s agape love, which goes beyond any mortal love we could possibly understand, in this scripture…Ephesians 3:19… to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (NKJV)
When we as Christians are filled with (totally controlled by) the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18-20), He should help us to be guided into living the last stanza of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman”; and here it is…
