Hebrews 6:19This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, (NKJV)

When sins were committed in the Old Testament times, the High Priest would enter the Holy of Holies behind the veilin the Tabernacle, once a year on a day known as “The Day of Atonement”, also known as Yom Kippur…  It was (and still is) the holiest day of the Jewish year; where the High Priest entered into God’s presence behind the veil, to sacrifice animals in order to first atone for the High Priest’s own sins…and then the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all of their transgressions… (Aaron was designated as the first High Priest by God…Leviticus 16:15-22)    Here is a link on “The Day of Atonement”…    http://www.cogwriter.com/atonement.htm

Jesus became the Great High Priest, and the Lamb of God that was slain at the cross at Calvary; so that through Jesus’ sacrificial death, those that seek Christ to be their personal Lord and Savior…may have their lifetime of sins cleansed once and for all by Jesus’ shed blood…Hebrews 9:11-12

Here is a link for this most important days writing about how God’s grace is received to become a Christian in God’s eyes; through obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ… https://godsmanforever.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/gods-group-thoughts-for-10202012-gods-grace-through-obedience-to-the-gospel-of-christ/

The writer of Hebrews uses such an appropriate word picture, in referring to Jesus as someone who anchors the soul of those God has brought into His family as one of His children…  Boats and ships of all sizes need to be anchored down, in preparation of impending storms; or even at rest…so that they don’t drift off by tides or currents and be dashed to pieces upon the rocks…

The Christian that remains focused on the Lord as their anchor, will easily be able to weather the storms of life that will sink anyone not saved by God’s gift of grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ…Ephesians 2:8-9…  But Christians must allow the supernatural power of Holy Spirit (given to all Christians as their lifelong Helper…John 14:26), to be their anchor…  Satan will try to pull the Christian off God’s perfect course, with temptations of lust…the desire to seek wealth…or by placing any other person, place, or thing before their love for the Lord…

All humans are frail, helpless, individuals…which will be easily devoured by Satan…1 Peter 5:8-9a…   Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith,  (NKJV)

Some synonyms for steadfastare…unwavering, committed, and dedicated…   Christians can resist Satan, and all of his temptations to sin… But they must be committed to the Lord Jesus Christ as the anchor of the soul…  The power given to the Christian, who totally submits their lives to God, will stop Satan dead in his tracks…James 4:7-8aTherefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.  (NKJV)

I have personally found that by my consistent spiritual growth through spending daily Q/T in God’s Word…through consistent prayer, confessing any sins to remain Spirit filled (1 John 1:9)…through worshiping corporately with other Christians at Sunday church…and now through Bible study sessions to dig deeper into God’s Word…that Jesus’ half brother James was absolutely on target with this scripture…  I find less and less temptations from Satan and my own flesh to sin…and a stronger presence of God’s love in my life, to strengthen the anchorof my soul to the Lord Jesus Christ…

Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Word would cut right to the very soul like a two-edged sword, of those in need of their own anchorto the Christ…Hebrews 4:12-13…  I pray Father that all unredeemed sinners could find rest for their souls, as spoken by Your Son Jesus Christ, in…Matthew 11:29-30…  I pray that You draw those in need of spiritual birth to Yourself (John 6:44)…and a renewed commitment by Your children to strengthen the anchorof their own soul to the Lord Jesus Christ…  I pray for this fullness of Christ for all of us…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
