James 1:22… But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (NKJV)
Christians are called to keep God’s commandments… Here is a link that gives 69 Bible verses that say we are to keep God’s commandments… But we read throughout the Old Testament, that it was impossible for anyone to keep all of God’s commandments… https://sites.google.com/site/theendtimewarning/all-bible-verses-that-say-keep-commandments
Jesus Christ simplified the impossible task of keeping all of God’s commandments, by giving us His two most important commandments to follow, in…Matthew 22:36-40… “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these twocommandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” (NKJV)
Jesus tells us that if we can keep these 2 commandments as a Christian…everything else should fall into place… “On these twocommandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Unredeemed sinners, in order to become a Christian in God’s eyes…must obey the first commandment given to us by Jesus…to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind”, as they submit their lives to Jesus Christ…seeking Him to become their personal Lord and Savior… This obedience to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, is the only way a person can be graced by God with salvation…through saving faith alone in Jesus Christ…Ephesians 2:8-9…
There have been people who tell me they are Christians…who have no idea when I ask them, what the gospel of Christ is all about… Many of them go to church every week, believing it would be a sin if they didn’t… Some admit that they really don’t know much about the Bible… These people are only “deceiving” themselves…because God’s Word is clear, on what will happen to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…
The apostle Paul pens this eye opening scripture, in…2 Thessalonians 1:8-9… in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who donot know God, and on those who do notobey the gospelof our Lord JesusChrist. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destructionfrom the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (NKJV)
Here is a link for this most important days writing, about how God’s grace is received to become a Christian in God’s eyes; through obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…
Once we do become a Christian in God’s eyes…how many of us hear God’s Word at church…and then walk out the door and proceed to sin, maybe even on the way home… Someone cuts in front of us on the drive home…and we cuss at them (even if it is only in our minds)… I must admit, that this is a sin that I still struggle with… I don’t use fowl language…but I have a very low tolerance for giving someone grace, who is driving ahead of me at 5 mph below the speed limit…
Christians cannot go to church on Sunday, and then take the rest of the week off…believing they have fulfilled their duty, until the following Sunday… If our heart is not filled with the love of Christ all of the time…and we are not able to love those around us all of the time…then we cannot be Spirit filled Christians…
The apostle John writes this, in…1 John 3:24… Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. (NKJV)
If indeed, we have been given the Holy Spirit by God, which is proof that we are a Christian (Romans 8:16)…then we as Christians should do our best to walk just as Jesus walked…1 John 2:6… He who says he abides in Himought himself also towalk just as He walked. (NKJV)
And since Jesus always followed the will of His Father who sent Him…so should we as Christians, follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, that God has given to us as a lifelong Helper…John 14:26…
I came across this blog, by a man named Glenn Rogers, that gives an excellent write up about Jesus (and hopefully us) always doing the will of His Father… http://www.glennrogersphd.net/jesus-did-his-fathers-will-rather-than-his-own
So if you are a Christian…don’t just go to church…listen to the Word…and then walk out of church, and go right back into your sinful way of living… Do your best to walk in the Spirit, as it is called…by being alert to the urging of the Holy Spirit God has given you… Turn from the desires of your carnal flesh, and the temptations to sin, that Satan will try to ensnare you with… Confess any and all sins before the Lord (1 John 1:9), and walk in sweet fellowship with Him, as a Spirit filled Christian…Ephesians 5:18-20…
You cannot fool God, because He sees our every move…so stop “deceiving yourselves” into believing that living with un-confessed sin in your life is OK…even for a little while…Hebrews 12:11… Now nochastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceablefruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. (NKJV)
The writer of Hebrews writes this, in… Hebrews 4:12-13… For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. (NKJV)
Don’t just sit in church and hear the words spoken by those in the pulpit… Let the Word of God dwell in you richly (Colossians 3:16)…and apply it to your lives… God will be pleased to see His children become “doers of the word”, and He will reward those who diligently seek Him…Hebrews 11:6…
Heavenly Father, I pray that today’s Word would cut right to the soul of those that are not living in Your will… Help all of us Lord, in our quest to be pleasing in Your sight… I pray for the fullness of Christ’s love to enrich all of us, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
