“Who’s Programming Your Conscience?”
“Blessed are those who have a tender conscience, stubborn are headed for serious trouble.” Proverbs 28:14 NLR
In this hedonistic age of relative truth, it is too easy to let the culture of the world in which we live program our conscience. We too often ignore the clear teaching of God’s Word in the name of being “cool”.
When we ignore God’s clear commandments and float along on the river of denial, justification, or comparison with others, the truth is not in us and we are going to have to deal with the consequences of a seared or dull conscience.
Just because the moral standards of the age in which we live have reached all time lows doesn’t mean that God has lowered His standards for how we should live our lives as His children.
The end never justifies the means when we willfully violate our consciences. God will not be mocked! We will sooner or later reap the bitter harvest of dancing to the tune of the world, our flesh, or the evil one. Our sins will catch up with us!
Although forgiveness is always available, the consequences of sin linger on. Although love does cover a multitude of sins, it will not protect us from the consequences of bad conduct knowingly made in willful disobedience to the will of God.
God does not want our complaints or excuses. He wants our praises, and obedience.
He not only blesses our obedience, He gives us the strength of the Holy Spirit living within us to stand firm, flee, or overcome the forces of evil that are always seeking to devour us.
Father, help me to rise above today’s culture, and walk on the higher ground of obedience to you with a clear conscience. In Jesus’ name, Amen
