Psalm 119:37-38Turnaway my eyes from looking at worthless things, Andreviveme in Your way. 38 Establish Your word to Your servant, Who is devoted to fearing You(NKJV)

For many people, Facebook is an addiction that can waste far too much of one’s daily free time…  For me it has become a ministry that I use to share the Word of God…  I post my daily blog on Facebook, on a page that can be found by searching for “Gods group”…and looking for a lightning strike and a beautiful sunset…

I came across some important teaching for parents the other day, as I spent some daily time on Facebook…  The following link came from a friend on Facebook (David Jesus Follower Cooke), from his posting titled…“Don’t Let Hollywood Devour Your Child”…with a picture of a young girl with her hands affixed to a big TV… https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=357752977657792&set=a.103296429770116.3159.100002692779174&type=1&theater

At the bottom of the picture was scripture written by the Apostle Peter, which was most appropriate for this article…  1 Peter 5:8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversarythe devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.  (NKJV)

The author of this article, about evil influences that come from TV, writes… “Constant watching of TV programs that are full of crime, violence, hatred, sexual impurity and mocking of God dulls your conscience and implants sinful thoughts into your mind.”  He then quotes the following scripture…2 Corinthians 7:1Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanseourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfectingholiness in the fear of God.  (NKJV)

I will be the first to admit that I watch far too much TV…  But it is mostly educational or informative television, with an occasional Phillies baseball game (Ugh !! They lost the last 5 in a row)…or a rare movie, usually with my wife…  Even though I spend much time in the Word every day…I am still guilty of not making the best use of my time, when I watch TV…

Most of us enjoy eating food everyday…  When we miss meals, or we are constantly feeding our bodies with junk food…we find ourselves lacking in the important vitamins and minerals that keep our bodies healthy…

If we are Christian’s, we need to feed our minds with things from above…not on the things of this world that are filled with sin, evil, lust, and shame…Colossians 3:1-3If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.  (NKJV)

The Word of God holds the key to every single thing the Christian needs to know about life…including the way to receive eternal life in heaven, to begin with…1 Peter 1:23…   having been bornagain, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abidesforever,  (NKJV)

The Apostle Paul pens this, in…Ephesians 1:13-14InHimyou also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the HolySpirit of promise, 14 whois the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.  (NKJV)  (See the link at the end for more information on how to plant the seed of salvation, to obtain God’s grace through understanding and obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ)…

Jesus gives us this most important piece of teaching, when He tells us this, in…Matthew 4:4But He answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by breadalone, but by everyword that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”  (NKJV)

Friends, the opening scripture holds the key to a Christian’s life that is absolutely running on all 8 cylinders…Establish Your word to Your servant  God’s Word, the Bible, is what will feed the Christian with spiritual food for the heart, mind, and soul…

God’s Word is living and powerful, and can change lives…  The writer of Hebrews pens this, in… Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom wemust giveaccount.  (NKJV)

As I already mentioned God’s Word has the power to save, by illuminating darkened hearts and minds with the truth of the cross…after God draws the unredeemed sinner to Himself…John 6:44

God’s Word is where the Christian will find all the promises made by God, about the absolute supernatural power the Holy Spirit will provide to the Christian who is Walking in the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18-20)…with the supernatural love of Christwhich passes our mortal knowledge… Ephesians 3:16-20…the fullness of joy when the Christian is filled with Christ… John 15:11Colossians 1:11…&…Jude 1:24…and a supernatural peace, that goes beyond our mortal understanding…Philippians 4:6-7…given to the obedient Christian who is living for the Lord…

And God’s Word (the sword of the Spirit…Ephesians 6:17b) is where the Christian will find God’s full 6 piece set of spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-20), that if put on by the Christian piece by piece, and worn in its entirety…will protect the Christian from Satan and his fiery darts…Ephesians 6:16…  Here is the link about this full set of spiritual armor that absolutely works in my life…  http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=eph6:10-20&version=NKJV

But God’s Word is also the Christian’s Book of Instructions Before Leaving Earth…  I don’t believe there is one question in life, which cannot be found by diligently digesting God’s Word through daily spiritual feeding…

God’s Word is where the Christian can find comfort…Psalm 119:49-50Remember the word to Your servant, Upon which You have caused me to hope. 50 This is mycomfort in my affliction, For Yourword has given me life.  (NKJV)

To sum things up…God’s Word is what will make the Christian complete in Christ…  The Apostle Paul says it best, in…2 Timothy 3:16-17All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.  (NKJV)

Let the Word of God dwell in you richly…Colossians 3:16…and if you are a child of God, you will find your life being feed with living water (John 7:38), and spiritual food that will last forever…Isaiah 40:8…  A Christian who is not reading God’s Word, who is urged by the Holy Spirit to do so, should really listen to their Helper  The apostle James teaches us this, in…James 4:17Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, urge all of us to make a commitment (hopefully every day) to spend time feasting upon Your glorious Word…  Help us to understand Lord, that there can be absolutely no better use of ones time, than to read Your Word…and then become doers of Your Word…James 1:22…  I pray for the irresistible urge to read the Word, for all of our livesin Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce r mills
