Romans 8:15-16… For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom wecry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The SpiritHimself bears witness with our spirit that wearechildren of God, (NKJV)
There will be some who don’t believe what the opening scripture tells us… When the unbeliever is graced with salvation by God, through saving faith alone in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9), there is confirmation that they are indeed a child of God… “The SpiritHimself bears witness with our spirit that wearechildren of God”… These people don’t believe this is true, because it is foolishness to the unbeliever…
1 Corinthians 2:13-14… These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teachesbut which the HolySpiritteaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the naturalman does notreceive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he knowthem, because they are spirituallydiscerned. (NKJV)
God speaks to His children by several means… We already see in the opening scripture, that God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit given to the believer as a lifelong Helper and Comforter (John 14:26), for those believers who are tuned in to listening to the Holy Spirit…
God speaks to us though His written Word, the Bible… I can personally attest to the power of the Holy Spirit in helping the Christian understand and comprehend what God will teach us from His Word…if we as Christians allow the Holy Spirit to control our heart, mind, and soul… I am reminded of a day’s writing back on 7/15/2012 that was titled…“Help in Understanding the Bible”… You can read this days writing with tangible proof of the helping power of the Holy Spirit, by going to www.Godsmanforever.wordpress.com and typing 7/15/2012 into the search window…
God speaks to His children through the circumstances of our lives… He speaks to us through our failures…through our successes…through our disappointments…and through our trials… Once we as Christians understand that everything that happens to Christians God uses in some way for our good (Romans 8:28)…we will be on our way to being able to finding joy, even in our trials…
James 1:2-5… My brethren, count it alljoy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (NKJV)
God speaks to us through other believers, who out of their love for us, should tell us if they see anything in us that God would consider to be a sin…Galatians 6:1… Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritualrestore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. (NKJV)
There are some Christians that believe we should never approach another Christian we see sinning… But Jesus tells us this, in…Matthew 18:15… “Moreover if your brothersins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.” (NKJV)
But we must base our judgment of believing a brother or sister in Christ has sinned, on absolute irrefutable proof…not on hear-say, or rumors, or any other form of gossip… Jesus tells us this important point, when He teaches us this, in…John 7:24… “Do notjudge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” (NKJV)
For those people who don’t seem to be hearing the Holy Spirit all the time in their lives…they are either spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1-3), their consciences have been seared with a hot iron…1 Timothy 4:1-2…or Satan and/or their own flesh has overridden the urging of the Holy Spirit…
All of God’s children have been commanded to share the gospel of Christ…Matthew 28:19-20… I can only suggest that if someone approaches you with a love for the Lord that seems to light up every part of their life…that you consider listening to them, if they are trying to share their love for the Lord with you… God uses people who have a passion for the Lord (His disciples), to share their faith with those around them in need of hearing the truth from God’s Word…
It is the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ (the “Good News”), that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross…to cover the sins of those who seek Jesus Christ to become their personal Lord and Savior…after God has drawn them to Himself…John 6:44… God’s grace is a gift to those who believe in saving faith alone, through understanding and obedience to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ… (See link at the end for more on God’s grace)
These are the basics of how God speaks to us… God also speaks to us through nature, through His creation, and through other means as well… Today’s thoughts were inspired through a 20 minute audio sermon done by Dr. Charles Stanley on 6/17/2013 titled…“Is God Still Talking?”… To listen, go to Dr. Stanley’s powerful message @ http://www.intouch.org/broadcast/audio-archives and scroll down to this date…
Heavenly Father, I for one am ever so thankful for the many promises that have been kept by You in my life…that all Christians should be experiencing… You make these promises of rewards to those that diligently seek You by faith, through Your Word…Hebrews 11:6… I pray for this fullness of Christ in all of our lives, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
Blessings in Christ, bruce r mills
