“Casual Christianity”
“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were one or the other!” Revelation 3:15 (NLT)
The Laodicean Church was spit out because the members were without serious intent or commitment. They were lukewarm.
The fact that the Lord noticed this, and made a point to indict Luke warmness, should give us all cause to beware of being casual Christians.
The soil of cheap grace makes it too easy to receive the free gift of eternal life for when we die, but continue to do life without serious intent or commitment to becoming born again believers with a passionate desire to be all that God has called us to be as disciples.
The distractions of this world and the deceitfulness of riches are continually seeking to undermine our commitment to Christ.
When we see how passionate and committed some football, basketball, and NASCAR fans can become to their favorite sport, how intent people are to attend their favorite rock concert or watch their favorite TV show, we have cause to wonder why we don’t see the same passion and commitment to Christ.
There should never be anything casual about our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Getting to know Him through His Word, and becoming more like Him, should be the number one priority of our lives.
When we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness everything else will fall into place, as we live lives fully committed to seeking and finding His purposes for our lives.
Our God is a jealous God who will not tolerate our double mindedness in placing our purposes ahead of His, or our being casual instead of totally committed to Him.
Father, may I never become lukewarm in my worship and commitment to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Blessings in Christ, bruce r mills
