“Love is Always Saying You’re Sorry”
“Staying with it—that’s what is required. Stay with it to the end. You won’t be sorry; you’ll be saved.” Luke 21:16 MSG
“Love is never having to say your sorry, is listed as 13th of the 100 most memorable movie quotes in history. It may be good box office, but it is terrible theology.
The day we stop apologizing to God when we sin and fall short of His glory, is the day that the hardness of heart sets in and we start to act like the Pharisees .
How many marriages could have been saved and relationships restored if we had only taken the time to say: “I’m sorry! please forgive me.” Sometimes we must even choose whether to be right or be reconciled.
When denial, justification and rationalization set in grace moves out
and our pride gets in the way of our relationship with God and others.
“I’m sorry! please forgive me! is one of the greatest fire extinguishers ever invented. It douses the fire of most anger and allows us to move
on without the baggage of bitterness that accompanies most quarrels
and offenses.
We can never enter into a saving relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ without a broken spirit and contrite heart. Saying: “I’m sorry! Please forgive me for Jesus sake” to God allows salvation to come and sets us free from the guilt we carry and condemnation we deserve.
The life long process of being transformed into the image of Christ that begins the hour we first believe is all about saying “I’m sorry, please forgive me for Jesus’s sake” every time we stumble and fall down.
Saying “I’m sorry, please forgive me” is the channel of God’s grace that will help fight the good fight of trying to become more like Jesus.
Father, thank you for your love that allows me to say I’m sorry.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
