1 Thessalonians 5:11… Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. (NKJV)
I woke up last night with a dream about my long time friend Lynn Barr Foglio… I worked with Lynn way back when, at a previous employer for a number of years… I had lost track of Lynn for years, until I found out that she had been diagnosed with ALS…(Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.) We kept in contact through Facebook private messages, after Lynn (at a very advanced stage of ALS), was given an “eye gaze computer”… where she could type by using her eyes, one letter at a time…
Lynn told me in one message back on 1/06/2012, how a statement I had made many years earlier had given her such encouragement… I had been explaining to Lynn about some technical engineering stuff, when the owner came in to drag her back to her desk… Here is a copy of part of Lynn’s Facebook message to me…

“you know i want to tell you something about how you had an impact on my life it was at apparel. i remember dave coming in saying back to work but you said one thing once to me while dave was splitting us up. you said “lynns mind is like a sponge and she is absorbing this all in better than some of the mechanics and other sales men”! And that statement gave me the confidence to do anything !!”
Lynn, a little later, typed this message… “you never know the impact you have on other people that you meet in life … And i accomplished so much more after apparel, remembering those words you said about me. love lynn”
Lynn Barr Foglio was a professed child of God… She told me this in a message, and I quote… “i belong to baptist church and have accepted jesus into my heart as My lord and savior”…end quote… Praise the Lord for His gift of grace and His mercy !!
ALS, for those who don’t know, is a disease with no cure… Lynn knew she was going to die…but what a positive attitude when the Holy Spirit is living with-in a believer, as the great Comforter… We talked about her impending death, and this was her response…and I quote…
“And i believe that there is a reason for me and i will know why when i meet him in heaven …since the beginning there will be suffering in this world i sometimes think that he only chooses those who can handle it i believe that there is a path for me and i have Already seen the impact of this disease and myself have had on bringing those back to god.”
What a testimony from my friend Lynn !! Lynn passed away in June 2012, some six months after these comments I have posted… I find it interesting that my dream about Lynn came just 4 days before the annual ALS walk held in Ocean City, NJ on 9/18/2013…
I am reminded of another friend of mine that I have met through wordpress.com…who also has ALS since 1996… His name is Bill Sweeney, and Bill still writes a blog sharing his “Unshakable Hope” through God’s saving grace, that Bill titles by the same name… Bill is such an inspiration to me…and should also be an inspiration to anyone with physical limitations… Bill, just like Lynn, only has the use of his eyes to type… And through all of his pain and suffering, Bill still has a passion for glorifying the Lord through his powerful writing…
Here is the link to Bill Sweeney’s blog site, for those who want to be inspired by Bill’s spiritual posts…
I spent a day writing about the hope that lies with-in the Spirit filled Christian…with the focal point on Bill Sweeney…that can be found @ www.Godsmanforever.wordpress.com by typing 7/04/2013 into the search window…
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful to have known Lynn Barr Foglio, and Your other ALS child Bill Sweeney…who continues to glorify Your name through his heart, mind, and eyes… I pray Father, that these two special people and their personal testimony will be used to help all of those still in need of Your saving grace…to see that there is hope no matter what circumstances life brings… This God given hope is only possible by receiving Your gift of grace through saving faith alone in Your Son Jesus Christ… I pray that we can all find this supernatural peace that only You can provide…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
Blessings in Christ, bruce r mills
Wow, Bruce, I wish I had known Lynn. She sounded like a real trooper and encourager. I’m sorry she’s gone.
Thank you so much for your ongoing encouragement and prayers – it means so much!
