“Quit Your Quarreling!”
Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling.” Proverbs 20:3 NLT
In our natural state, we are prone to wander wide and argue frequently. When our self-centered flesh is in control we want our way in everything and will quarrel with God and with others about anything.
The seed of rebellion and disobedience that took root in the Garden of Eden has been passed on to every child born of woman. We see the evidence in babies, children, and adults. We argue to get our way, to prove our point, or that we are right about something or someone.
Until we quit quarreling with God and submit to the lordship of Jesus Christ, we will never know the security and peace that surpasses all understanding.
When we submit to the control of the Holy Spirit living within us, we will bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…instead of the rebellion, quarreling, pride, anger, lust, and envy that indicate we are still under sin control.
When arguments take place, we should take whatever steps we need to take to admit and apologize when we’re wrong, and disagree without being disagreeable when we are right.
Above all, we must not let our arguments give way to unresolved anger that will compromise who we are and who we profess to be as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Father, help me to stop quarreling even before it begins by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen
