As many of you know, today marks the one-month anniversary of Typhon Yolanda (Haiyan) making landfall in the Philippines. Thanks to the support you have given us since then, and the support and commitment you have given to our work in Haiti, where we have proven the efficiency of this new model of sustainability over the last four years. In the last two and a half weeks we have set up a Communications Resource Center in Tacloban City, helping to bridge the gap between the international relief effort and the many Filipino groups that have come together to help themselves and their communities.
Thus far we have bought together 13 local non-profit groups to collaborate with the international community, including the United Nations, to discuss how the international relief effort can empower local groups. We are also providing office space for at least 100 people, a conference room and a fast Internet connection. The support we are offering is enabling our partners to serve their communities, rebuild their homes, reestablish their livelihoods and return to normality. We are currently implementing substantial plans for the next few weeks. This week we are facilitating a training that will assist local entities in navigating the complex international aid system. As we expand our network with local groups, we are also actively looking for a nearby property to build a Logistics Resource Center, which will provide a workshop, tool-lending program, storage, vocational trainings and a building expo that focuses on utilizing disaster risk reduction techniques.
The Philippines Communitere website will be up shortly but in the meantime please direct much needed donations through the http://www.haiti.communitere.org/donate website noting that the donation is for the Philippines.
