We are studying 1 John chapter 5, in our weekly men’s Bible study…  Here is the scripture we spent an hour discussing the other morning…1 John 5:4-5…  For whatever is born of Godovercomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. ⁵ Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?  (NKJV)

This scripture indicates that all Christians born from above (John 1:13), should be able to overcome the sins of the world, which the Apostle John lists in the opening scripture…  Our discussion centered on why so many Christian men were addicted to, or spend time on pornographic web sites (estimates of 50 % or more)…when this scripture indicates that “the lust of the flesh,” & “the lust of the eyes,” & “the pride of life”, should not be a problem…

A little further on in chapter 5, we read this…1 John 5:18… We know that whoever is born of Goddoesnotsin; but he who hasbeenborn of Godkeepshimself, and the wickedonedoesnottouch him.  (NKJV)

Friends, the key to overcoming a porn addiction, or drug addiction, or alcoholism, or any sin for that matter, which Satan will use to tempt every human being…is not accomplished with our own power or strength…  The Apostle John hints at the key to defeating “the wickedone” (Satan), when he pens this, in…1 John 4:4…  You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, becauseHewho is inyouisgreater than hewho is in the world.  (NKJV)

There are three parts to the Trinity…God the Father…God the Son…and God the Holy Spirit…  Many Christians fail to realize that the Holy Spirit living with-in them is equal in power to God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ… Sin is only defeated by allowing the full power of the Holy Spirit to take charge of the Christian’s life…

Any unconfessed sins the Christian harbors in their heart, will keep the Christian from walking in the Spirit…Galatians 5:16…  I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and youshallnotfulfill the lust of the flesh.  (NKJV)

To “Walk in the Spirit”, all known sins must be confessed…repented of…and turned from (1 John 1:9), to be filled with the supernatural power of Holy Spirit…Ephesians 5:18-20…  Walking in sweet fellowship with the Lord requires the Christian to be in constant submission to the leading of the Holy Spirit…  I am reminded of scripture written by the Apostle Paul, which gives us glorious insight into this “fullness of God”, which fills the Christian with “the love of Christwhichpassesknowledge”…

Ephesians 3:16-20…  that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through HisSpirit in the inner man, ¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, ¹⁸ may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— ¹⁹ toknow the love of Christwhichpassesknowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.  ²⁰ Now to Him who is able to doexceedinglyabundantlyaboveall that we ask or think, according to thepower that works in us, (NKJV)

Friends…stopping Satan dead in his tracks, can be accomplished by the Christian who systematically puts on the entire 6 piece set of the spiritual “whole armor of God”,which the Apostle Paul writes about, in…Ephesians 6:10-20; (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=eph6%3A10-20&version=NKJV;KJV )

This complete set of spiritual armor, which God has provided the Christian, must be put on, and worn in combination with total submission to God, through obedience to the Holy Spirit… The Bible tells us this; and the Bible is 100% truth…

Ephesians 6:11… Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  (NKJV)    And the Apostle James pens this, in…

James 4:7-8… Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. ⁸ Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  (NKJV)

Christians will have to contend with their own carnal flesh until the day God calls them home…  But our flesh can be managed (everything for me for the most part, except my tongue…James 3:8-9) by consistently desiring to please the Lord, as the Christian lives a Christ centered life…

As I mentioned in my last day of writing…when the Christian sins, they are committing these sins against God, not anyone else…  I don’t know about you…but when I stop and think of what Jesus went through on the cross, so that my sins could be forgiven…I just can’t knowingly sin…  God’s redeemed children owe His Son Jesus Christ, a debt that we will never be able to repay…

Heavenly Father, help all of Your children realize that our strength, our hope, our peace, and our ability to conquer sin comes exclusively from the power of the Holy Spirit You have given to all of Your redeemed children…  I pray for this fullness of Christ in all of our lives, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
