Hebrews 10:24-25…  And let us consideroneanotherinorder to stir up love and good works, 25 notforsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.  (NKJV)

Do you look forward with anticipation and excitement when you think about going to church ??  Or do you look at church as an obligation or requirement, in order to please God ??

Why we should be, and how to become excited about going to church, along with any other life question you could possibly have…can be found in God’s inerrant Word, the Bible…  Let’s look at some scripture that might help answer why we as humans should gather as a church body, to worship our Creator together…

The opening scripture is a good place to reveal why we as Christians should bother going to church…  God tells us that we should assemble corporately, to worship Him…  When we decide to stay home and sleep, or to use the time for our own selfish purposes…we are telling God that He is not important enough in our lives, to warrant going to church…  I’m not speaking of missing church because of really bad, inclement weather, or because our health won’t allow us to make it to church…  All of us, me included, will miss going to church once in a while for personal reasons…  But to neglect the Lord by missing church week after week, if we call ourselves Christians, isn’t going to put a smile on God’s face…

What will make God pleased with His children is for them to do their best to live in His will…  We see in the opening scripture that we as Christians are to consideroneanotherinorder to stir up love and good works…  Loving one another as Christ loves us…along with loving the Lord with all of our heart, our mind, and our soul…are Jesus’ 2 most important commandments…Matthew 22:36-40…  Jesus then tells us that if we can get these 2 commandments down pat…everything else will fall into place, in…Matthew 22:40

The apostle John, in his ripe old age, pens this, in…1 John 5:2-3…  Bythis we know that welove the children of God, when weloveGodandkeep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And Hiscommandments are notburdensome.  (NKJV)  We should NEVER consider going to church, or anything else we do in the way of good works for the Lord, to be a burden…but an opportunity to serve the Lord with a cheerful heart to bring Him glory…1 Corinthians 10:31

The apostle Paul pens this about finding a church to join, and to then to literally become part of their body for Christ, in…Ephesians 4:14-16that we should nolonger be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with everywind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may growup in allthings into Him who is the headChrist16 from whom the wholebody, joined and knittogether by whateveryjoint supplies, according to the effectiveworking by whicheverypart does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.  (NKJV)

When we find the right church, and use the spiritual gift or gifts God gives to each of His children (1 Corinthians 12:1…&…12:11), we become part of God’s unified body of believers, thereby fulfilling one of God’s desires for His redeemed children…

The apostle Paul pens this about this unified fellowship of believers for Christ, in… Philippians 2:1-4 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if anyfellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfishambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Leteach of you lookout not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. (NKJV)

On the Day of Pentecost (Acts chapter 2), when God the Father sent down the Holy Spirit to Christ’s disciples (and all believers)…we the see the beginning of Christ’s church and the awesome power of the Holy Spirit, as the apostle Peter preaches his first sermon with boldness…and about 3,000 new Christians were added to the new church…

Acts 2:41-42Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about threethousand souls were added to them. 42 And theycontinued steadfastly in the apostles’doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.  (NKJV)

Over 2,000 years later, and things haven’t changed a bit…   We as Christians are to be feed spiritually through reading and meditating on God’s Word (Matthew 4:4), to understand the same doctrine Christ taught His apostles…  We are to fellowship with one another as a unified body of Christ to worship and pray for one another, as already explained…  And the obedient act of being baptized after becoming a Christian (Acts 2:38), and the sacred ceremony of taking communion to remember what Christ did for us, and a celebration of what we receive as a result of His sacrifice…should be a regular part of our church service…

I believe our excitement level about going to church is directly proportional to our spiritual walk with the Lord…  When we are living for Christ as a Spirit filled Christian (Ephesians 5:18-20), the Holy Spirit will give us the right heart filled with the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:16-19)…the right motivation and the desire to please the Lord in every situation (Colossians 1:9-10)…the ability to love those around us at all times, even our enemies (Matthew 5:43-44)…the peace of God which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7)…and a fullness of joy when we are filled with Christ’s joy (John 15:11)…  This combination of spiritual fruit will bring excitement into the life of a believer, which will show itself as the light of Christ with-in us, to glorify our Father in heaven…Matthew 5:16

Friends, our spiritual walk with the Lord begins and ends with the Word…  After all, the Bible teaches us that the Word was Christ Himself…John 1:1-2, 14…  I spent a day writing about “The Living Word”, that can be found @ www.Godsmanforever.com by typing in 12/16/2013 into the search window…  God’s Word is living and powerful (Hebrews 4:12-13), and can change forever the lives of those who spend time reading and meditating upon its glorious treasures…

Let me close by scripture penned by the apostle Paul, in… Colossians 3:16Let the word of Christdwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord(NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Word will awaken souls that will become excited about learning more about how to become pleasing in Your sight…  I pray for this spiritual awakening with the fullness of Christ, which Your Word is capable of producing in ALL of our lives, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce r mills
