“The Right Call”
“If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you’d rather serve—and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you’re now living. As for me and my family, we’ll worship God.” Joshua 24:15 MSG
From Little League umpire manuals to beer commercials, making the “right call” has become a catchy phrase for every day life.
A lot of our quality of life is going to depend on making the right calls. There are right calls about education, jobs, mates, morality, and faith that are a lot more important than the beer we call out for, or whether we call a player safe or out in a baseball game. Prisons. rehab centers. divorce courts, and bankruptcy courts are full of people who have made some wrong calls. The truth is that we are all born with a sin DNA that guarantees we will all make some wrong calls. (“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23) How exciting it is to know that all of our wrong calls can be erased when we make the right call to God. Although there may be some consequences, when we confess to God that we are sinners who need a Savior and ask Jesus to come into our hearts, God takes all of our bad calls and buries them in His sea of forgetfulness. Conversely, it is also exciting to know God is never going to forget and will bless and reward our right calls in loving and serving Him and others. Our God of free will never forces, but will always help us make the right calls when our hearts are right with Him. We can never strike out with God when we worship Him in spirit and in truth. Father, help me to make the right calls that will earn your “well done” when I stand before you to give an account of my life on judgment day. In Jesus’ name, Amen
