                                        “Let’s Make a Deal!”

“So also Christ died only once as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again but not to deal with our sins again. This time he will bring salvation to all those who are eagerly waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:28 NLT

This TV game show featured the decision to trade your winnings for whatever was behind Door 1, 2, or 3. You often got something much better, and just as often got something worthless.

Some seem to think that they are playing “Let’s Make a Deal” in the game of life.

The prodigal son traded his inheritance for a pottage of pleasure that ended up with him eating pig slop to stay alive.

Some will trade their character for popularity, their love of God for love of pleasure or possessions and end up getting short changed.

Satan tried to play “Let’s Make a Deal” with Jesus in offering all of the kingdoms and glory of the world if He would bow down and worship him.

We sometimes consciously or subconsciously try to make deals with God; if He will do something we want, we will do something He wants, as though we have something to bargain with.

If we make a deal with the devil, we can expect only to get burned. The pleasures promised will soon turn to brass, and we will find that we have not only been deceived, but often disconnected from God in the process.

When God is the dealer “Let’s Make a Deal” becomes a game worth playing. He never deals off the bottom of the deck of deception.

When we ante up with faith, God deals a full house of blessings beyond anything we can dare hope for. We have the peace and joy of the present, and the bright hope for tomorrow in heaven.

Father, thank you for dealing me the gift of salvation and all its benefits. Amen.
