Matthew 5:27-28… “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (NKJV)

I have started out today’s writing with this eye opening piece of scripture, because there are many of you Christian men and women out there, who have no idea that even looking at someone, or something (pornography of ANY kind), and thinking lustful thoughts in your mind, is considered by Jesus to be a sin…because, if you are a man, you have “already committed adultery” in your heart, with these lustful visions of any kind of sex with a nude women…

I started looking at “Playboy Magazines” back in college; and maintained a subscription to this porn magazine for several years after I was married… Neither I, nor my wife, had ever realized that my looking at these magazines was a sin… And let’s face it guys…you’re not reading this kind of magazine for the educational articles it includes…

My comment to my wife, when looking at these magazines (or even gawking at another beautiful woman, after marriage), was always…”I can look honey, as long as I don’t touch !!” WRONG !! If you are a professed Christian, any kind of sex outside of a marriage between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:24)…including looking at porn, and homosexuality [See (1) below]…is a sin in God’s eyes !!

I am reminded of a day that several men from my old church, went down to “America’s Keswig”, (a program for drug rehabilitation, through Christian counseling) (2)…to listen to a speaker talk on why so many Christian men were addicted to pornography of all kinds… The speaker asked for all of the Christian men who still had a problem with pornography, to please stand up… I was flabbergasted to see just about half of the men (including a few men from my church) admit to having a porn problem !!

You see, I was addicted to porn myself…until the day God graced me with salvation (3)… It will be 12 years in just a few days (Praise God for His longsuffering and patience with me !!), that God filled me with the Holy Spirit…as He cleansed me of my lifetime of sins (Including my addiction to pornography)… I am living proof of the power of the Holy Spirit living with-in the Christian… Praise God, and may He be glorified…because I have not slipped once to the temptation of pornography !!

It is possible to beat the addiction to porn, or any other addiction, through the supernatural power and conviction of the Holy Spirit… This life long Helper (John 14:26), is living with-in every one of God’s redeemed children…that God has given to His children to fight any and all temptations… But we must remain filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18-20), to allow His power to fight the battles we will never win in our own flesh…

Philippians 4:13… I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (NKJV)

The apostle James (Jesus’ half brother) pens this, in…James 4:7-8… Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (NKJV)

It’s by the power of the Holy Spirit, as we submit our lives to His control…that we will be able to accomplish anything that is in the will of God…1 John 5:14-15… Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. (NKJV)

I just wrote about the power of the Holy Spirit, to fight porn, a few month ago… (4) But this problem is so common, I just couldn’t pass up another days writing about it, after listening to Pastor John Piper answer a question the other day from a 17-year-old, about how to beat his pornography addiction… I hope anyone with this, or any addiction, will spend the time to listen to Pastor John’s 7:15 minute audio biblical response, on how a pornography addiction can be defeated !! (5)

Heavenly Father, I pray that my personal testimony, and the teaching of Your servant Pastor John Piper…will help anyone with an addiction problem, if they are willing to submit their lives to You… I pray for this fullness of Christ, which will bring all of Your children closer to You, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
