Be Prepared…

“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.”

~Revelation 16:15

This is a very expressive verse from the Lord Jesus Christ. It underlines the sense of urgency and the need for Christians to be ready at every minute for the Savior’s return to this earth.

Despite claims of men who dare to predict the actual date of Jesus’ return, no one knows when that will be. God has appointed the time for this event, and it will happen according to His plans. We are actually told in scripture that our Lord will come at a time when no one is expecting it.

We find more detail about being prepared in (Luke 12:35-36, 38-40). Here it says:

“Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. “Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks…”Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves…”You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”

Regardless of man’s feeble attempts to set a date of the return of Christ, they will never be able to do so. If a person could predict the time, it may lead to a deceptive notion. There may be those who feel they could live in sin right up until the hour of Jesus’ return and then “repent” in an effort to be saved.

Such thinking is as ludicrous as can be! Truly convicted Christians would not live in such a way as that. Living on both sides of the fence, trying to “have your cake and eat it too,” is not the kind of committed lifestyle which will get that person into heaven!

God wants the honestly transformed heart. He seeks those who are spiritually minded; those who have died to the things of this world and desire to be with their Lord for eternity. Those souls are the ones who will be prepared at all times of the day and night, watching and waiting for their Lord to return.

Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people. Therefore let us keep our affairs in order, and be ready at all times to be called to the Lord, be it in our death, or at His second coming…
