You Must Be Absolutely Clear About This |
Monday, July 17, 2017Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go?” John 6:68 (NIV)Why go to anybody, Peter? Why not just go home? You have a wife and a career, so why do you need someone to go to?Before he met Jesus, Peter always thought of himself as a decent person with a bit of a volatile temper; nobody’s perfect! But now, in the presence of Christ, he has discovered that there is a massive distance between himself and a holy God.This is the man who caught a glimpse of the awesome glory of the Son of God and said, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord” (Luke 5:8). In other words, “Lord, without you I have no hope before the searching light of a Holy God. I’m sticking with you, Jesus, because I need someone who can make things right between God and me.”Are you absolutely clear about this in your own life? Without the death and resurrection of Jesus, without his saving and keeping power, without him speaking up for you on the last day and saying, “He belongs to me. She is covered by my blood,” you have no hope before a holy God.“Without you I am lost! To whom else can we go?” This is the first conviction that sustains a life of discipleship. This is the conviction that will enable you to follow Jesus for a lifetime. Is this conviction firm in your mind? Why or why not?
