“Wait on the Lord”
Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thy heart; wait, I say, on the Lord.
Psalm 27:14
Yesterday morning we heard a good word from God as our Pastor delivered God’s word with authority and without compromise. He encouraged us by showing us that in Christ, we have already achieved VICTORY. He spoke to us about WINNING. And he helped us to see that because of WHO Christ IS, you and I don’t have to walk around like a bunch of defeated losers.
I love this verse of scripture. It tells us to have patience as we look to God and trust Him. It tells us to not be afraid, and to draw upon the courage and strength available to us as we look to God. It promises us His strength. And it closes with yet a second admonition to wait on the Lord. One small sentence in the sermon yesterday morning caused me to consider this verse. For as Bro. Tony was encouraging us to invite those who had dropped out of attending church to come back, he said, “Let’s just trust God and wait and see what He does!”
I thought about people who give up. Giving up when you have already been promised a victory is pretty ridiculous. And I thought about how easy it is quit, and how hard it is at times to keep on keeping on. But I also listened to how during the wait process, we aren’t to just sit by and do nothing. We aren’t to become a spectator, but to get involved in the effort to achieve and celebrate the victory we have already been promised. For you see, we really do know how all this down here on earth ends up. It ends with Jesus Christ on His Throne, fulfilling all the promises that have been made to His people. So this morning I say wait on the Lord. And in the meantime, keep working.
