This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Be ready to rejoice with those who rejoice.
This passage stood out to me. Hear Romans 12:15: “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” A few months ago I talked about be ready to weep with those who weep. But notice the first half of the verse: “Rejoice with those who rejoice.” “Rejoice” is a present tense showing this as continuous idea. According to STRONG the verb means “to be ‘cheer’ful, i.e. Calmly happy or well-off.” For Christians it is also rejoicing to God for what He has done. This is the action we’re called to have with those who are rejoicing.
Do you rejoice with those rejoicing? Do you rejoice what God is doing in people’s life? You can’t rejoice with those rejoicing if you don’t know people. Do you know anyone who has reason to rejoice? If you do already know, praise God along with them!
Pray for God to guide you this Sunday to someone who you can rejoice with what God is doing in their life. Keep an eye and ear out. Ask questions.
Sometimes when we don’t or can’t rejoice with others at all, it might be because we struggle with jealousy. If others are blessed by God in certain ways, do you get upset? Do you wish you had what they have? Remember this is not what we are called to. It would be a sin to be covetous. But sometimes when we repent from that, we also need to “put on” the opposite action of our sins: And here it would be to thank God for what He is doing and giving to someone.
So today rejoice with someone who is rejoicing today!
