“Can God Trust America?”
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT
There is a lot of consternation and objection to “In God We Trust” being taken off our coins and mottoes in this country, which is only a symptom of what should be giving great cause for concern among all who love this country.
The secular humanists and freedom from religion advocates have been trying to replace trust in God to trust in man and in the god of Washington DC for decades, and are beginning to succeed.
As trust in God diminishes in this country, the question should be not can we trust God, but rather can God trust us.
From our humble beginnings as a faith based Christian country, right up to a generation ago, God’s divine providence has generally been recognized as the major reason for our prosperity as a nation.
It seems that the more economic and material prosperity the Lord has trusted us with, the more our idol worship and pursuit of pleasure has diminished our trust in and obedience to God.
Instead of using our excess wealth and leisure time in glorifying God by loving and serving others, we seem to have bought into the “one with the most toys wins” philosophy, and use our surplus time and money to buy more status and pleasure for ourselves. We forget that God has provided this improved standard of living to improve our standard of giving of ourselves and our resources for His good pleasure and purposes.
Can it possibly be that our economic, social, and international problems are increasing a result of God’s distrust in us a nation ? Has it been decreasing because of our replacing trust in Him and His commandments with the Godless philosophy of secular humanism ?
Father, help us all to do whatever possible to restore Your faith in us as a country and as individual believers. In Jesus’ name, Amen
