John 6:62-63 (All Falls Down)
By BJ Richardson / May 20, 2014 / Daily Walk

Then what will you think if you see the Son of Man ascend to heaven again? The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (John 6:62-63)
Read: 1 Kings 2:13 – 3:15, 1 Chronicles 29:23-25, 2 Chronicles 1:1-13, Psalm 83
Relate: Did you ever play Jenga? It seems like forever since I last played this game. Unlike most games Jenga didn’t really have a winner, only a loser. Think about it, everybody is playing not to lose. You pull a block out of the foundation and then add it back on at the top. The goal is to get that stack as tall as you possibly can but the higher you go, the shakier your foundation gets. Sooner or later someone is going to pull the wrong piece and it all falls down. The loser has been determined, everybody points and laughs, and then you create a new “foundation” and start it all over.
Sounds a bit like life, doesn’t it? Everybody wants to “build their stack” as high as they can. They think that by doing such they are successful. They think that they are accomplishing something. Sometimes you can look over at your neighbor and either get proud or jealous. It’s either, “Wow, I’m at least three or four levels higher than you are.” Or it’s, “I’ve got to get moving on this, they are way ahead of me.” So we build and build. But the higher we build the shakier things get. Sooner or later the wrong piece is going to get pulled. It might be cancer. It might be a drunk driver. Your heart might decide it has had enough. Whatever it is, sooner or later a crucial piece is going to be pulled and then it all falls down. There is no way to win when playing the game of life. It is impossible. In the end everybody loses.
React: As depressing as that sounds, there is an out. The only way to truly win at the game of life is to stop playing. Seriously. Only one person ever truly got as high as He wanted and He only did that by transcending the game. It looked like the crucial piece in His game had been pulled. It looked like everything had come crashing down. For days it looked like the worlds best hope at finally finding a winner to the game of life had been shattered. Then suddenly, on the third day, those pieces started putting themselves back together. They built higher and higher all the way to heaven. Jesus is the Jenga master. There is no greater truth. The only way for us to not lose is to give all our pieces to Him and let Him do His thing.

God, I give everything to You. I recognize that there is no way on my own to ever win at this thing. So I give up even trying. Take over. Take control. My life is Yours, do with it as You will. I acknowledge and surrender to You as the only true Master.
