The Story of the Tramp and the Broken Harp

November 5, 2014 By Mike Campagna

Harp Player

“And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him (Jesus), and touched the hem of his garment. And the woman was made whole from that hour.” (Matthew 9:20, 22c; KJV)

THE BROKEN HARP

The story’s told of a musician who had a broken harp that no longer could be played.

So he stashed it away to gather dust in the downstairs basement.

THE TRAMP

One day, he and his family were working in the kitchen when a knock came at the front door.

It was a tramp looking for a bed.

The family would invite the tramp in.

And after sharing with him a hot drink, they pointed him to the basement where there was a bed for guests to sleep in.

BEAUTIFUL MUSIC

Later, the sound of beautiful music began to encircle the house.

It was coming from the basement!

So the musician rushed downstairs, opened the door and found – it was the tramp playing his broken harp.

“I made this instrument years ago,” the tramp would say.

“Should I not then be able to fix it?”

WHOSE HANDS ARE YOU IN?

It is the same way with our Lord and us.

And before we come to Christ, we are much like that broken harp that no longer could be played.

But let Him get His hands on us who made us and all that can change.

Our lives can become like beautiful music.

Whose hands are you in today?

Let us give ourselves to God that we may become the instruments He would have us to be.
