Thought for the Day 8-3-23

Mark 1:16-18

As He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

I wonder what these men were thinking when Jesus called out, “Come on, guys! Follow Me, and I’ll show you how to fish for men!” I think they understood they would be studying under a rabbi, but I don’t think they had any imagination of what was coming. Despite all the unknowns, they were willing to leave the familiar behind and explore new spiritual territory. Many of us have been taught that our faith begins and ends with a conversion experience. Accepting Jesus as Savior and LORD is absolutely necessary, but that is the starting point for what should be a lifetime of growth and change.

As we mature in Jesus, we are better prepared to go into the world and be the witnesses He desires us to be.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I yield my will to You and choose to follow Jesus daily as LORD of my entire life. Holy Spirit, grant me an understanding heart and revelation of Jesus. May His Kingdom be more real to me than anything in this present world. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, amen, and amen.
