“Stay close to your Lord”

And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest; and he sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire.

Mark 14:54

Sunday, our Bible Study is Mark 14. It is the longest chapter in the book. It tells of the time when Heaven and Hell are moving in the same direction with different purposes and intent. It is loaded with actions of both friends and foes of Christ. I wrote this devotional a year ago today, highlighting the distance Peter chose to place between himself and the Lord Jesus Christ. I pray it helps someone.

Some people try to follow Jesus, but they don’t want to follow Him too closely. You see, some are too worried about what others will say about them. And some are worried about what others will do to them.

The distance that Peter is placing between himself and the Lord is about to get greater. For Peter, who proclaimed with conviction that he would NEVER deny Christ, is fast approaching the time of his denial.

This morning I asked God to help me to be mindful of distances. And I asked Him to help me to stay close to Him. For I know that the further away I allow myself to get from Him, the greater my chance of failure becomes. And I don’t wish to fail Him. For He has NEVER failed me.
