The True, the Good, and the Beautiful?

Rod Dreher made a really good point in his review of “The Boniface Option” about how we can sometimes be quite clear about all the things we hate, but do we have, “a love of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful,” that is just as fierce and compelling?
Dreher mentioned Film critic Roger Ebert and how he had once pointed out that bad movies are fun and easy to write about, good movies are hard. As Dreher put it, “It’s easy to point out what’s wrong with the world, and much harder to express what brings one joy.” This is very true in blogging, too.
It’s exceedingly important in faith that we try to find a way to share our joy. The gospel is called the good news for a reason! I don’t wish to single anyone out, but one glaringly obvious problem on social media is how negative so many of us are, how angry, how downright mean spirited. I kid you not, it can be just brutal.
So that’s what I’m focusing on this week, trying to make my love of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful more fierce and compelling than my fear, frustration, and outrage over contemporary world problems.
