Faith Like Amazon?

On the radio, I heard a woman speak about someone telling her she had more faith in Amazon than she did in God. Oh my goodness, what a powerful moment of conviction for me! They sure nailed that truth. A bit amusing too, because I will simply order something and then totally relax, abide in the complete certainty that it is now coming, and then completely forget all about it. Why? Well because they are reliable, they have a good track record, and those deliverers of happiness will bring you just what you need, sometimes the very same day.
Unless they decide to try to ship it USPS, in which case your odds of winning the lottery exceed your odds of ever getting your package, but I digress….
When I tell God my troubles, however, I tend to treat Him more like the USPS than Amazon. I worry, fret, track my package, and often despair of ever receiving it. My prayers are just lost in the abyss, aren’t they? There must be some kind of breakdown in communication between Heaven and I. God is going to put all my help in the wrong mailbox, isn’t He? Then I proceed to just beg, to try to reorder what I have already asked for, convinced it is never coming.
I’m so sorry Lord, for often displaying such little faith in you. You are so NOT the USPS.
First, let me be quite clear here, God is NOT a cosmic vending machine. Also, I have no affection or loyalty towards Big Corporations. I live in the boonies, in the middle of nowhere, so if I need something like some tea or a pair of socks, I can drive 30 miles with five-dollar gas and spend half the day for the privilege of paying 3 times as much for them. Or I can just ring up Amazon.
What can I say, I’m kind of a pragmatist. Also, I really hate shopping.
Anyway, most of the things I ask God for are not “things” at all. I’m generally asking for wisdom, insight, guidance, a change in perspective, the forgiveness of impatience, and more charity toward others. Sometimes a literal, material thing comes up casually in the course of having coffee with Jesus in the morning. There is absolutely nothing wrong with material things. God is not Santa Claus, but on the other hand, He is a good, good Father, and He wants to hear about the secret desires of your heart and to provide. So I was talking to him about some boots I wanted, very specific, very unusual, and very overpriced. I wasn’t even asking for them, I was just chatting.
The very next day hubby and I went to a garage sale, looking at wood and iron and all sorts of unfeminine things. I came around a pile of engine parts and old farm equipment and boom, there were my boots, still in the box, perched on an outboard motor. Not only that, they were my color, my size, and only 7 bucks. The lady who bought them had ordered them, tried them on and decided she didn’t like them. She forgot all about it, too much time had passed, so she couldn’t return them. And just like that, I had my boots. They are just perfect, too. Fit as if they were made for me, and I suspect they were.

Give God everything, the trite, the trivial, the superficial, the things that matter and the things that don’t, and then trust in Him. Trust Him to handle ALL things, from the minute to the huge. Have coffee with Him. Chat as if He were your best friend or a Beloved Father, because He really is.
So that’s my “weird girl fall” story. I am currently sporting a new blanket jacket I made, wearing some cool new boots, and sipping authentic pumpkin spice coffee, made with real pumpkin and spice and whip cream from a cow. (Stop trying to milk almonds, people. That’s just weird.)
God takes good care of me. She who has the Most High, needs no other high. In fact, sometimes walking with Jesus can feel very surreal with no hangover, no health damage, and no side effects.
