WDJD

NOVEMBER 15, 2023

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16

You’ve probably heard of WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?) but it may be more appropriate to ask, WDJD (What Does Jesus Do?):

Universally speaking: Jesus is the Creator of all things (cf. Colossians 1:16), the Sustainer of all things (cf. Hebrews 1:3), the Lord over all (cf. John 1:1ff), the Giver of life (cf. John 1:4), a sure Foundation (cf. Isaiah 28:16), the Builder of everything (cf. Hebrews 3:4), the Word of God (cf. Revelation 19:13), the Commander of the Lord’s army (cf. Joshua 5:14), and the Head over every power and authority (cf. Colossians 2:10).

On the global level: Jesus is King over all the earth (cf. Zechariah 14:9), the Head of every man (cf. 1 Corinthians 11:3), the Light of the world (cf. John 8:12), a Ransom for many (cf. Mark 10:45), and the Savior of the world (cf. 1 John 4:14).

Concerning the Christian community: Jesus is the Head of the church

(cf. Colossians 1:18), a Refuge for His people (cf. Joel 3:16), a Stronghold for His people (cf. Joel 3:16), a Witness to the people (cf. Isaiah 55:4), and the Leader and Commander of the people (cf. Isaiah 55:4).

In relationship to God the Father: Jesus is the Servant of the Father

(cf. Matthew 12:18), the One who turns aside God’s wrath (cf. Romans 3:25), the Image of the invisible God (cf. Colossians 1:15), the Mediator between God and man (cf. 1 Timothy 2:5), the faithful and true Witness to the Father (cf. Revelation 3:14), the One who speaks to the Father in our defense (cf. 1 John 2:1), the Door to the Father (cf. John 10:9), and the Arbitrator between God and man (cf. Job 9:33).

On the personal level: Jesus is the once for all Sacrifice for sins (cf. Hebrews 7:27), the Author of our salvation (cf. Hebrews 2:10), the Shepherd and Overseer of your soul (cf. 1 Peter 2:25), the Bread of Life (cf. John 6:35), the One who intercedes for us (cf. Hebrews 7:25), the One who goes before us (cf. Hebrews 6:20), the Counsellor (cf. Isaiah 9:6), the Physician (cf. Luke 4:23), the life-giving Spirit (cf. 1 Corinthians 15:45), the Teacher (cf. John 3:2), a Refuge from the storm (cf. Isaiah 25:4), the Deliverer (cf. Romans 11:26), and the One who gives strength to the poor (cf. Isaiah 25:4), the needy (cf. Isaiah 25:4), and those in distress (cf. Isaiah 25:4).

So what does Jesus do? . . . EVERYTHING! More specifically, everything that’s good and right and true.

Praise the Lord!
