“Yielding to God in obedience “
Luke 1:38
“I am the LORD’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”
When I was young, I would be tempted. I find that the tendency toward ungodliness has never gone away. I still have to decide—day after day, moment after moment—to turn away from what I want to do and choose what the LORD wants me to do. God has given everyone the right to choose…I have to choose to turn away from ungodly behavior and choose Christlike behavior. I have to choose to focus the greatest part of my time, my energy, and my resources on things that have a Kingdom purpose. Believe me, I haven’t perfected this mindset.
Submission does not come easy to most of us, and we will battle our carnal selves every day. But Mary had the right idea. She gave herself to the LORD in submission and servanthood and lived in such a way that God could use her life to accomplish His purposes.
Yielding to God in obedience is an ongoing, lifetime process for Christ-followers—rewarded for all eternity.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, grant me an understanding heart so I might serve You. I want to be pleasing in Your sight and ask You to deliver me from temptation. Guide my steps in paths of righteousness so I might honor You with my life and dwell in Your presence all my days. In Jesus’ name, I Pray, amen, and amen.
