Salvation and Psalm 79:9

Psalm 79:9 leaped out at me this weekend.

The verse states:

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; And deliver us and forgive our sins for Your name’s sake.

Quick observation:

1. The verse talks about salvation!  And this is in the Old Testament!
2. The verse talks about salvation is for God’s glory when it says “for the glory of Your name”
3. The verse talks about deliverance!  
4. The verse gives us a marvelous truth: We can be forgiven of our sins!
5. The verse talks about how even our forgiveness and salvation are for God’s namesake.  It’s important to have a God-centered view of salvation and not a man-centered view.

This led me to think of the following applications: 

1. Sometimes some people think the Old Testament is not about salvation or don’t have God’s grace.  But this verse shows this is not true!
2. This verse also shows how we can be saved!  Will you trust in the Bible with what it reveals about salvation?  That is, we are saved through trusting in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Trust that He is God becoming a man to live a perfect moral life to die for our sins.
3. Psalms are songs.  If you are a Christian, do you worship God and have joy in God who is the source of our salvation?
4. Do you confess your sins to God, to be forgiven of your sins?
