Trust the Process…

You have to trust the process. Do I trust the process? Absolutely not! All in good fun here, but just because I give great advice, doesn’t mean I succeed in following it myself.

Trust the process, that means, “things have a way of working out.” It means that things take time and there are forces at play that you don’t fully understand. It means, you are not in charge of making sure all things come out in the wash. It means, let go and let God.

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Lots have been said about that verse, but I just want to go with those words I’ve highlighted above. God is at work. That’s it, that is the whole message God is at work, He is on the job, He has laid out a process that is going to accomplish His goals, and He has set things in motion.

That means we don’t have to be full of anxiety or under the false impression that it all depends on us or concerned about what is going to happen next. Nothing wrong with being prepared, I’m just saying one’s soul needs to be at rest, at peace, because a calm, non-anxious spirit that does not give way to fear, is the best preparation for whatever life throws at you.

Also, if you get quiet enough, it’s often kind of fun to watch the process play out. Sometimes the world feels like a chaotic and random place, but it actually isn’t. There is a calm order, a rhyme, and reason to things that we don’t always see fully. In human relationships and event,s there is often a process going on too, one that sometimes looks like delicate and time-consuming brain surgery.

I happen to lean more towards the sledgehammer approach when it comes to getting things done. Sometimes that leads me into impatience and fear, completely forgetting that everything in the world involves a process that one must patiently allow to unfold in its own time.

So many aspects of the modern world try to steal this wisdom from us. Sometimes getting out in nature helps, growing things, watching the rhythm of the seasons, observing the ebb and flow of the tide, whatever serves to remind one of the truths of our world, that everything is a process.
