WHY DO WE CELEBRATE HOLY WEEK?

Posted on March 25, 2024 by atimetoshare.me

Yesterday, we celebrated the final entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. He was honored with shouts of “Hosanna,” as he rode in on a donkey. In a matter of days, the crowd would turn on Him and chant, “Crucify Him, crucify Him.” We’ve all seen evidence of herd mentality or peer pressure and maybe that’s why this turn of events was so important. Beyond that thought, the plan originated by God Himself was culminating, just as He designed. Our Savior, our King, our Jesus, would face false accusations, untrue charges, and the execution of a criminal.
Why would we celebrate such an event?

This plan of God’s was instituted in the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve became vulnerable to the attack of Satan. This fallen angel was determined to take God’s place, but God had other ideas. From that day on, His plan for salvation was established. In all the historical writings of the Old Testament, we see stories of God’s commands, His requirements of us, His expectations, and the eventual failures of those same people. We also read about mankind’s inability to live up to God’s perfect plan for our lives. We continue to think we can outthink God. We continue to follow the world, rather than His laws. When Jesus came as our substitute, we received God’s love in an unconditional form. His story was foretold in those early writings. He took on the task of living a perfect life. He was fully human but without sin. He died so we could live. He rose from death. By doing so, we have the promise of eternal life. That’s definitely worth celebrating.

Looking beyond the suffering, the torture, the blood and nails that pierced Him, we have hope. God loves the world so much that He died for it. His life didn’t end at the cross and because of that, we can be assured of a future beyond the grave. When our time comes, when death is imminent, we can also know that Jesus has taken the sting of death away so that we can someday meet Him face to face.

“Let go, and let God!!

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Matthew 11:29

Life is hard. The demands of work, parenthood, and all of our obligations weigh us down. Imagine how crushing the weight would be if we had to toil to satisfy God’s demands, too. Thankfully, God has sent Jesus to bear the burden for us. When we take on the yoke of working for His kingdom, we paradoxically find rest. How does this happen? As we walk with Jesus, He does the heavy lifting for us.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for easing my burden and granting me the rest found in Your mercy and forgiveness. Teach me to walk in Your gentleness and grace. Thank You for providing me the strength to serve You and for sending Jesus to carry the weight that should have been mine. In His gracious name, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

May be an image of text that says 'Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:29'

Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord

POSTED ON MARCH 13, 2024 BY BETH ANDREWS

God doesn’t always do what I want Him to do. He doesn’t always answer my prayers according to my wishes or follow my well-laid-out plans.

There are things I’ve prayed about for years that remain unresolved. Hard situations that haven’t magically gotten better. People I’ve laid at His feet over and over who get up and wander back into sin and self-destruction. What are we to do when – let’s call it what it really is – we’re disappointed with God? I know. It seems almost sacrilegious to say it, but if we’re not honest with God we will always be stuck with this gnawing sense that He can’t be trusted.

So what do we do when the doubts creep in? “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Two key things stand out to me. First: “trust” – it means to “have confidence in.” That’s pretty simple. But do you? Do you have confidence in God? Do you trust in His goodness, faithfulness, and love? Do you have confidence that He will always do what is right and best – even if what He does doesn’t meet your expectations?

Then – and this was huge to me – three words: “heart,” “understanding,” and “acknowledge.” The “heart” is the seat of our thoughts, emotions, and understanding. “Acknowledge” means to know, recognize, understand. Did you see the word “understand” all over this? “Understand” at its root – this is key – means “to consider with full attention.” There it is. When we lean on our own understanding – we are giving ourselves, our thoughts, and our emotions our full attention. But when we “trust in the Lord with all our heart” we give Him our full attention.

I don’t know about you, but I can easily drive myself into a rut of negativity. “God isn’t interested in your petty problems.” “He is angry at you.”

“He is disappointed in you.” “You don’t deserve His help – you made this mess on your own.” You and I must continually bring our focus back to God and our thoughts back to Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.  (NKJV)

No, I’m not going to give it to you. Go look it up.

Beloved, where are you focusing your attention today? On yourself, on your emotions, on your problems, or on your God? He is your solid rock. He will never betray your confidence in Him. You really can “Trust in the Lord.”

Death, Dying and Eternity – part 2

Death Validates the Bible

Death is yet another proof of the truthfulness of Scripture. Because of the Fall of humankind as recorded in Genesis, God pronounced the judgment of death, and no one or nothing can revoke God’s verdict of aging and death. Surely, if there is no God and the Bible is not divinely inspired, someone, somehow, would be able to overcome this curse of death pronounced on human beings and nature. Yet, the endless and elusive quest for a “magic potion” to live forever always ends in futility.

The Bible indicates death will continue throughout history until the Lord Jesus returns and the dead are raised. We have the assured promise that one day death will be forever eliminated (1 Corinthians 15:54-55).

Illusion or Reincarnation

As Satan tempted Eve to eat the fruit and rebel against God, he flagrantly altered God’s Word from, “You will surely die” (Genesis 2:17) to “You surely will not die!” (Genesis 3:4). Not only did Adam and Eve immediately die spiritually (separation from God), but they also eventually died physically. Satan’s lie seems so obvious and far removed from the visible evidence. To conceal his lie, two more fallacies are propagated.

The first false idea is that you do not really die; death is merely an illusion. However, if you go to a funeral and see the body lying there, it is obvious that person is dead. The second is reincarnation; your spirit leaves your body at death and is reborn into another body. We will not be reincarnated but will die once, and after death, face God’s judgment (Hebrews 9:27). No second chances, no reincarnation.

Although most people innately know that after death comes some form of judgment, yet many endeavor to suppress it during their lifetime (Romans 1:18-19) by denying the very God who offers the only means of victory over death.

This Is Not Our Home

I talked to a Vietnam veteran whose life seemed hopeless. In an effort to give him some hope, I said, “When you were in Vietnam, your goal was to get home safely and to bring back alive as many buddies as possible. Just as Vietnam was not your home, this world is not your home, but like Vietnam, we are in the midst of an intense spiritual battle for our lives and families and facing many dangerous challenges and difficulties. You have an inner longing to get to your real home—your heavenly home—and bring as many loved ones and friends with you as you can.” That illustration resonated with him, and, for the remainder of his life, he kept his focus on Jesus Christ and His promise of a future home in Heaven.

Thank God this world is not our final home; we are merely passing through. Certainly, we face challenges, trials and spiritual warfare, but our faith in Christ transcends the troubles in this life. Our goal is to get our loved ones, friends and as many others as possible into Christ’s eternal Kingdom. John Wesley said, “I want to know one thing, the way to heaven; how to land safe on that happy shore.” C.S. Lewis wrote, “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.”

Meet Your Maker

A hardened farmer, from whom I bought some fruit and vegetables, was undergoing dialysis and nearing the end of his life. Upon discovering that I was a minister, he sarcastically asked why God hadn’t taken him yet. I responded, “Just like you leave fruit on your trees until it is ready to be picked, the Good Lord is leaving you here until you are ready to meet Him.” His wife enthusiastically agreed. I gave him a book I wrote which hopefully prepared him for eternity because, a short time after that encounter, he met his Maker.

On another occasion, I was talking to a neighbor who had already lived several months beyond what the doctors expected. Jim said to me, “God must not be ready for me yet.” I replied, “The most important question is, ‘Are you ready to meet God?’ He may be keeping you alive until you are.” After a few more visits, he accepted Christ as his Savior. Not long thereafter, he departed this life to meet his Maker.

What If I Die Today?

Some of you reading this may depart this life sooner than anticipated. So let me get introspective with you. When it is time for you to die, what will your last words be? If you were going to die today, what eternal legacy will you leave behind? Where will the footprints of your life lead?

What will your financial records reveal were the priorities of your life? What will the literature they find in your home reveal? What about the movies and television programs you watched? What will the sites you visited on your computer and the email and text messages disclose? Will you leave a legacy of fruitful faith or unrepentant failure?

Many rich and powerful people live to impress others—that is until their bodies and minds begin to degenerate. As their strength diminishes and their pain intensifies, with death appearing imminent, their proud and boastful words cease. Their former arrogant behavior seems like foolishness as their short-lived glory becomes nothing but a faded memory.

How foolish humans are to think that what we have is really ours. We might have built it, but we did not create the materials from which it was made—God did. And we definitely cannot take it with us when we die.

When facing imminent death, many people discover that what they previously thought was important is now irrelevant and that which they had considered of little value becomes most precious.

When we die—or when Christ returns—none of our accomplishments, degrees, credentials, awards, accolades, and possessions will matter (Philippians 3:7-8). What will really matter and be of utmost importance to you at the end of your life is your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Pandita Ramabai, a 19th-century Indian scholar, social reformer, educator and Christian convert accurately said, “A life totally committed to God has nothing to fear, nothing to lose, nothing to regret.” Jim Elliot wisely stated, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” An unknown author said: “When you were born you cried while the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a way that when you die the world cries while you rejoice.”

Win-Win Situation

I have been with many dying people who knew the Lord and died in peace and joy. Even as their bodies began shutting down, they testified of God’s love and faithfulness.

MaryAnn was a kind and gentle person who served the Lord her entire life. She was a powerful prayer intercessor with a passion for biblical prophecy. Although her body weakened, her prayers and trust in Jesus remained strong until her final breath. Then, she was in the presence of the One to whom she prayed and so deeply loved.

One dying man, Karl, said he lived his whole life for that “last trip.” As I visited him near the end of his journey, he was in great physical pain but had tremendous peace spiritually and emotionally. While many people visited this man to bring comfort to him, they went away blessed because of his attitude and love for the Lord.

Being at the bedside of many dying saints reminded me of the patriarchs in the Bible. Their final recorded words were ones of faith, instruction, and admonition to loved ones to remain faithful to the Lord. The final words of these committed believers in Christ were a reflection of their hearts; words from a voice that will never be heard again in this life.

Trapper John’s perspective was that if God healed him he would be a testimony for the Lord. If God took him home (as He did), he would be with the Lord in Heaven. Either way, he couldn’t lose! He had the “win-win” attitude of Romans 14:8: “for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”

Closing Prayer

Oh Lord, until that Day when the dead are raised. Until that Day when we are given new resurrected bodies. Until that Day when we see You face to face. Until that Day when we are reunited with our loved ones. Until that Day when we inherit all You have prepared for those who love You. Until that Day when death and sorrow are forever banished. Until that Day… we ask for your comfort, strength, and grace in the midst of any loss and temporary separation. May we cherish the blessed memories of our loved ones as we await that magnificent day when Christ returns and the dead will be raised from their graves to be transformed with new immortal, glorified bodies! In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Such was the prayer of the “man after God’s own heart.” Did holy David need to pray like this? How needful, then, such a prayer must be for us babes in grace! It is as if he said, “Keep me back, or I shall rush headlong over the precipice of sin.” Our evil nature, like an ill-tempered horse, is apt to run away. May the grace of God put the bridle upon it and hold it in, that it rush not into mischief.

What would the best of us do if it were not for the checks that the Lord sets upon us both in providence and in grace! The psalmist’s prayer is directed against the worst form of sin—that which is done with deliberation and willfulness. Even the holiest need to be “kept back” from the vilest transgressions. It is a solemn thing to find the apostle Paul warning saints against the most loathsome sins: “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”1

What! Do saints really need to be warned against such sins as these? Yes, they do. The whitest robes, unless their purity be preserved by divine grace, will be defiled by the blackest spots.

Experienced Christian, do not boast in your experience; you will trip if you look away from Him who is able to keep you from falling. You whose love is fervent, whose faith is constant, whose hopes are bright, do not say, “We shall never sin,” but rather cry, “Lead us not into temptation.” There is enough kindling in the heart of the best of men to light a fire that shall burn to the lowest hell, unless God shall quench the sparks as they fall. Who would have dreamed that righteous Lot could be found drunk and committing immorality? Hazael said, “Is Your servant a dog, that he should do this thing?” and we are very apt to use the same self-righteous question. May infinite wisdom cure us of the madness of self-confidence.

“Are you a ‘born again’ believer ??”

Jesus answered and said, Verily, verily I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:3

We don’t hear much about being “born again” these days. The liberals have pretty much accomplished their intended goal to make people who use the term seem foolish and unlearned. Nicodemus was an educated man. He didn’t understand the concept of being born again either, but he truly wanted to understand.

Every human being on planet Earth has been born once. The “water” birth is the first birth, the natural childbirth experience. A person who comes to Christ in genuine faith and repentance is born again.

The second birth is the spiritual rebirth that only the Person of God’s Holy Spirit can accomplish. If you are born JUST once, you will die twice.

But if you have been born again, you will only die once. I thank God that by His mercy and grace, I have been born again. Don’t be afraid of the term “born again”. It is important. Jesus proclaimed it. And Jesus said EXCEPT a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. I believe HIM! How about you?

Volunteering for Suffering

Reading: Psalm 119:49-56
ז Zayin

Remember your word to your servant,
for you have given me hope.
My comfort in my suffering is this:
Your promise preserves my life.
The arrogant mock me unmercifully,
but I do not turn from your law.
I remember, LORD, your ancient laws,
and I find comfort in them.
Indignation grips me because of the wicked,
who have forsaken your law.
Your decrees are the theme of my song
wherever I lodge.
In the night, LORD, I remember your name,
that I may keep your law.
This has been my practice:
I obey your precepts

Reflection
Raise your hand if you want a dose of suffering. There aren’t many volunteers when that question is asked. But in all seriousness, we do volunteer for suffering, if we believe there is a benefit.

As a youngster growing up on a farm, I remember getting a sliver in my finger. It took some convincing from my mother to allow her to dig it out with a needle. Once that sliver was gone, the suffering stopped almost immediately. A small dose of short-term pain brought long-lasting relief.

There’s a similar principle at work in a statement from today’s reading. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

It’s the promise of a better future that helps us endure suffering in the present. I’ll endure the suffering of surgery if it comes with the promise of a pain-free future. But the LORD’s promises are on a grand scale. He doesn’t just preserve my life for the present; He promises to preserve it for eternity. That’s an enormous promise, but our God is far beyond enormous. How do you measure infinity?

Now let’s return to that sliver. You can’t walk through this life without picking up mental slivers—foreign objects that lodge in your mind. It could be an erotic picture, an emotional scar, or an errant thought that grows into a bad habit. Brain slivers aren’t easily removed. And yes, they fester and become infected. It isn’t long and they may begin to take over your whole thought pattern. You can try to remove them yourself, but Jesus is the best brain-sliver remover that I know. Go to him. A little repentant pain can bring eternal relief.

Response: Father God, remove my brain slivers. Forgive me for allowing wrong thoughts and habits to grow and fester. I remember, LORD, your ancient laws, and I find comfort in them. Preserve my life. Amen.

Your TurnAre there brain slivers that have invaded your mind? Have you set your mind on God’s promise and asked for His help?

I found it somewhat amusing that Michael Cassidy knocked over the statue of Baphomet at the Iowa State Capitol building, and proceeded to throw his head in the trash.

Naturally, they arrested him, which struck me as a bit humorous too. What are you in for? Throwing satan in the trash.

Needless to say, I am not overly grieved by this alleged property crime. I found it rather entertaining and symbolically delightful. Just the same he violated the rule of law, he violated the will of the people, he disrespected someone’s property, and he bypassed due process. No, no, I am not eager to vote for people who show complete disrespect for those principles.

My second thought was, welp, there’s a meaningless publicity stunt from someone running for political office.

Don’t you wish that tearing down statues actually made things go away? People aren’t going to like me for saying this, but that’s a very liberal concept. I call it tokenism. You do something superficial and meaningless, something likely to create even bigger problems, and then pat yourself on the back for having been the only one courageous enough to solve all the world’s problems. Tokenism is a form of virtue signaling.

I don’t wish to single out and target Iowa. I myself often say I live in the 9th circuit of hell. Trust me, Iowa has lots of rotten company. However, some of us might want to ask ourselves if perhaps Baphomet might be a better representative of what really goes on in our state capitols in the first place?! Call me crazy, but I’m far more concerned about people misrepresenting Jesus indeed and act, and then using His image as a brand, as a stamp of approval.

Also, if one is a Christian then we really need to take a better look at Acts 17. The Apostle Paul is in hostile territory and has encountered numerous idols. Does he tear them down? No! He says, “For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.”

Acts 17:24-31 is where Paul proceeds to proclaim his truth. I am especially fond of this passage because he pays tribute to their poets. Apologetics is not supposed to be a dry, scientific, intellectual pursuit. Let me tell you about God, let me make Him known to you.

A huge problem I see in the world right now is that force, publicity stunts, and doing the precise same thing as the other guy just with your own team colors stamped on it, is all the rage. Might makes right. Naturally, Michael Cassidy is a military guy, and that is probably an appropriate response in a physical battle, in a war. Some might even say, we are in a spiritual war right now, the problem being you simply cannot use force and violence against the devil. Why? Because it doesn’t work, because it is foolhardy. You just can’t shoot things like cancer, disease, grief, despair, ignorance, greed. You can’t just punch people in the head for doing things like “worshiping an unknown god,” a god they don’t even know how to define!

Have a chuckle with me, this particularly little god was actually made out of pool noodles. I so appreciate the effort and the symbolism, but in truth Michael Cassidy simply fought a pool noodle and won. I’m not overly impressed.

Those of us who are Christians have a wealth of information to draw from in the Bible, actual examples of how to address things properly.

The book of Jude actually says, “Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

Jude is a reminder that we need Jesus. We are not powerful enough ourselves to fix anything. Some of the things we try to fix are not the things that are broken. And some of the things that really are broken, we refuse to fix. I’ve been trying to say this to conservatives and Christians and conservative Christians for decades now to almost no avail. What is needed is not more force, more aggression, and more authority, more meaningless posturing and displays of tough-guy-ness, but rather more wisdom. Good grief are we famished from some wisdom! We need to stop fighting pool noodles and start using our own noodles.

We don’t just lose politically when we reject wisdom, we lose the war of faith, too.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT – Galatians 5:22-23 | Mission Venture Ministries

Written by Nancy Ruegge for “From The Inside Out” @  http://nancyaruegg.com

View original post @ https://nancyaruegg.com/2024/03/14/surprise-in-the-fruit-bowl/

Surprise in the Fruit Bowl

Years ago I served as a short-term missionary in Ecuador. One of my first meals there included a fruit I’d eaten many times back home in Illinois, although more often from a can than the produce section.

But that day the golden wedges provided an uber-delightful surprise: more flavor, more sweetness, and less acidity than any I’d enjoyed in the States. It was as if I was eating a different fruit.

That’s because Ecuador grows some of the world’s best pineapple. Their location on the equator and the volcanic soil of the Andes Mountains provides perfect growing conditions. I gained new appreciation for what pineapple could be.

There’s another kind of fruit that many of us are familiar with, but it’s not the kind we eat. It’s the fruit of the Spirit, listed in Galatians 5:22-23. Many of you can probably recite its nine aspects:

What follows are brief thoughts on each. I pray we gain new appreciation for what this fruit can be—perhaps even uncover a surprise or two.

LOVE

If you were asked, what’s a powerful, practical way to express love for others, what would you say? Theologian John Calvin suggested intercession [1]. To pray for a person is to love that person.

Who might you love with a prayer today?

JOY

Scripture tells us to “rejoice always” [2], but that’s hard to do when problems and pain come our way.

Selwyn Hughes offers this perspective: Even though our difficulties may have begun with the devil, by the time they get to us and through us, they will have a divine purpose running through them [3].

Now that we can joyfully celebrate.

PEACE

“The truly thankful person is a truly peaceful person,” asserts Lysa TerKuerst [4]. And Isaiah 26:3 suggests why:

What better way to fix our thoughts than with thanksgiving? And as we affirm God’s blessings, peace will warm our hearts.

PATIENCE

Patience blossoms best in the soil of God’s promises, as we wait for him to intervene. His promises cover every circumstance; our part is to know them and believe, then patiently anticipate their fulfillment.

Are you clinging to a scripture-promise today? Turn it into a prayer of faith, hope, and patience [5].

KINDNESS

We can grow this attribute with one action: meditate on God’s kindness to us [6]. Meditation fosters appreciation; appreciation fosters emulation, and soon we find God’s kindness becoming more a part of who we are.

GOODNESS

This trait often seems out of reach. But instead of trying harder to be good, author Philip Yancey recommends: simply love God. “A person who truly loves God will be inclined to please God” [7].

Also worth remembering, the inclination to always please self results in dissatisfaction and restlessness [8].

FAITHFULNESS

Every year thousands gather to see Old Faithful, even though it’s not the tallest geyser in the world. Why is it so popular? Dependability. You can count on Old Faithful.

What might dependability look like for you today?

GENTLENESS

A list of traits of successful people rarely includes gentleness. Yet this attribute contributes much to prosperity in life. That’s because: “[Gentleness] creates in us a capacity for the closest possible intimacy with God” [9].

It’s the gentle-spirited souls who lean in toward God with yielding hearts to rest in his sovereignty. And then, think of it: God, with all his glorious attributes, comes close (James 4:8).

SELF-CONTROL

“A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls”[10]–vulnerable to all sorts of problems.

Better to take the wise course, prayerfully availing ourselves of the Holy Spirit’s help, to develop those habits we know will bring benefit and usefulness.

*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *

And now, our fruit bowl is full! Did you find any surprises?

I pray this week, you enjoy one or more aspects of this familiar fruit–with fresh appreciation!

Hindrances to Worship

JANUARY 4, 2024

Man Worship God

To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power, forever and ever!

Revelation 5:13 (NIV)

The deep desire of every true believer is to worship God in Spirit and truth. As the indwelling Holy Spirit prompts us in our spirit we’re continually inspired and re-inspired to ascribe blessing, honor, glory, and dominion to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Nothing should hinder a perpetual outpouring of praise and adoration. Day in and day out the Lord is worthy of praise. For He alone is holy, wonderful, and worthy.

Do you believe what you’ve just read? Now be honest. It’s often easier to speak or read about worship than to do it.

The problem is our enemy the devil opposes worship. His aim is to keep every knee from bowing and every tongue from confessing “that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” Philippians 2:10-11. In an attempt to expose the devil’s schemes, I’m going to ask you to answer the following:

  1. Is my will submitted to God’s will? Worship must be rooted in the Word of God. We must worship God as He’s truly revealed in the Bible. Is your worship biblically grounded or do you do what you please? Do you come to God on your terms or His? Is it all about you and what you can get out of it, or all about Him? True worship is surrendering completely to God’s ways.
  1. Is my worship prescribed by tradition? A person with a religious spirit (a person who claims to know about God yet seeks to control Him) cannot worship God. Worship must spring from the heart and be led by the Spirit. Is your worship Spirit-led or tradition-bound? Are you informed by human expectations and norms or by the creative, life-giving, and fresh dynamic of the wind that blows wherever it pleases? (cf. John 3:8). Is your worship an expression of dead formalism and denominational protocol or is it genuine, heartfelt, and relationally focused? Heartless worship is no worship at all!
  1. Is my worship blocked by pride? Pride is the primary stumbling block to worship. Do you crave attention, secretly see yourself as better than others, or see the failures of others without being overwhelmed by your own spiritual needs? Do you desire to be served or are you motivated to serve others? Do you worship your own worship? Worship that God finds acceptable comes from a broken and contrite heart
  1. Is my worship hindered by a judgmental, critical, unforgiving, or complaining spirit? Do you denounce, condemn, or gossip about others? When you judge, criticize, and rant about others you build a wall that separates you from the presence of God. When you’re pointing out someone’s weakness you prevent God from cleansing you from your own. God won’t forgive you if you fail to forgive others. Worship begins when sinners repent.

These are just a few of the things that hinder worship. But you can break away from anything hindering true worship if, in the power of the Holy Spirit, you confess sin, humble yourself, and seek God’s face. Do that now.

“Worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire” Hebrews 12:28.
