This Sunday at Church: Pray for those teaching Children’s Sunday School at your Church

February 25, 2024 by SLIMJIM

For this Sunday here’s what you can do: This Sunday at Church: This Sunday at Church: Pray for those teaching the Children’s Sunday School at your Church.

Children are our future.

The children in our churches are the future of the church.

I heard a saying when I was in Seminary that the church is always one generation from fading.  Of course, we have Christ’s promise that the Church would never be wipe out by the forces of darkness.  But each local church needs to be faithful to focus on preaching and teaching the Gospel, lest the Lampstand be removed.

Such an important ministry.

I imagine they should be prayed for.  Pray for their teaching.  Pray for their impact on the children.  Pray for the salvation of the kids through the Sunday School lessons and the Sunday School teachers.

Our world is going more and more crazy.  This is not the time to shrink back from Gospel preaching; and that includes the next generation; after all, the world is going after them because they know how valuable they are.  So why shouldn’t we pray for our Sunday schools and Sunday School teachers?

“A great revival IS possible !!”

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

1 Peter 2:9-10

God has blessed our nation in the most remarkable ways throughout our history. The Great Awakening changed New England and put the moral backbone in the colonists to enable them to stand up to an oppressive king, leading us to freedom as a nation. Another revival in our nation gave us the moral courage to address the problems that brought forth the civil war. Change does not come easily. Every generation must choose, and our nation needs us to stand in our faith. God is our Source, and only He can give us a future filled with hope and promise.

Our willingness to follow God creates a straight path toward His blessings for future generations.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your people in the earth. Thank You for Your Church and the significant role You have assigned to us. LORD, we are a nation in need of healing—physically and spiritually. We ask for Your mercy. Stir the hearts of Your people to cry out and yield themselves to You with great earnestness. Let the fear of the LORD grow in our hearts. You are a God who heals, restores, delivers, and renews, and we ask You to look upon us today in grace. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen and amen.

LUKE SIX – BLESSED WORDS

Posted on December 6, 2019 by atimetoshare.me

READ LUKE SIX

This chapter is filled with so much meat. It begins by discussing the Pharisees insistence on not working on the Sabbath. Such things as eating some gathered corn from the field or healing the sick from their infirmity were considered labor by the elders of the church. Jesus quickly set them straight by stating that He was the Lord of the Sabbath. Those words must’ve stung deeply, as they were seen as a threat to the church itself.

By this time, Jesus had chosen all twelve of His disciples. They indeed were helpful to His ministry, as many of our own church elders can be of help to our officiating pastors. Jesus was a man and because of that He got tired and hungry. He needed time to pray, to rest and take nourishment just like we do. On the other hand, He is also God and could’ve easily provided for those needs, but it wasn’t part of His mission on earth.

We see in this chapter that Jesus prayed a lot. As our example, we can glean much from this. God is available to hear our prayers at a moment’s notice. We don’t always take advantage of that.

Jesus and his band of disciples covered a lot of territory. The crowds were growing. People came to be healed, out of curiosity and because the message was one, they had longed to hear.

The Beatitudes are listed in this chapter. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh,” was one of them. These were akin to the proverbs of old, but they carried an entirely new meaning. He said things like, “Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”  These words were foreign to them, but they certainly held their attention.

Jesus must’ve been an exemplary speaker. His voice would have to carry to great lengths to reach the many in His audience. Imagine the voice of God speaking directly to them and us. He was nothing extraordinary to look at, yet he commanded the crowds. When He told them not to judge others, but to forgive them as we will be forgiven. He told them to be good fruit and to build their lives on the foundation of God. By doing so they would not be shaken.

Jesus was bringing that foundation back to the people. He came to establish His kingdom in our hearts. Let us continually stay rooted in His Word so we continue to flourish and spread the Good News of salvation to all people.

We are definitely living in troubled times.  The church is being attacked on a daily basis.  The devil is using every tool in his toolbox to take advantage of us.  Don’t let Him in.

Suffering For What is Right

1 Peter 3:14, “But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats ; do not be frightened.”

We live in a world where we are seeing and experiencing many things that are contrary to the Word of God. When we choose to stand for what God’s Word says is right, we may at times feel weary or discouraged in the battle. Choosing to walk faithfully with the Lord, is not always going to be a simple path. As a matter of fact, Jesus encourages us with these words in John 16:33

“…Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

I also am inspired by the good news translation that says…

“…The world will make you suffer. But be brave! I have defeated the world!”

Jesus tells us to take heart and be brave because He has overcome and defeated the world. There is a blessing that rests upon our lives when we choose to suffer for doing what God says is right. And we will never experience any troubles that are beyond His control.

1 Peter 4:13, “But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.”

“The Lord’s will always prevails”

May be an image of text that says 'There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, thatshall stand. PROVERBS 19:21 42.2k 85.8k'

There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Proverbs 19:21

It is natural for us, as human beings, to come up with plans, thoughts, and goals for the future. But we need to realize that God is the only One who truly knows what’s best for us. When you have plans you would like to make, or actions you need to take about a particular decision, make sure that you go to God first. God’s plans will always outlive any plan we come up with for ourselves.

Prayer:

Dear God, I commit all my plans, dreams, and aspirations into your hands. These are only products of my thoughts; what I truly want is what you want for me because I know that that is what will truly be best for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

“Do You Believe God?” 2/20/2024 Written by Beth Andrews for “Deeper Roots”

Do You Believe God?

POSTED ON FEBRUARY 20, 2024 BY BETH ANDREWS

Lately, whenever I “thumb through” my Bible the pages tend to fall open at the same spot – Psalm 106, just as they did this morning. As I read, two verses stand out – like a divine highlighter has marked them. I asked the Lord what He is saying and the Spirit said simply, “Believe.” And God’s message becomes crystal clear.

This Psalm is a “Salvation History” a retelling of Israel’s story – but from God’s perspective. The first verse reads:

“They believed His promises and sang His praises” (v. 12).

This is immediately after their rescue from Egypt through the dry bed of the Red Sea. Pharoah and his entire army were wiped out and they were safe at last. Their faith was on the mountaintop. For a moment.

Across the page the other verse sits in silent judgment:

“They did not believe His promise [and] they grumbled” (v. 24).

Do you see the juxtaposition? Do you see what the Spirit was saying? Everything hinges on believing God. Not just believing in God, as my grammar check says, but believing God. When we believe God, our hearts are filled with praise. When we believe God is who He says He is our spiritual eyes are open and we can see Him in His beauty and glory. And we cannot help but praise Him.

But when we do not believe God, our hearts are filled with bitterness and our spiritual eyes are darkened. We can only see our misery and all we want to do is grumble. Jesus said “Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matt 12:34). If your mouth is full of grumbling, your heart is full of . . . well, I think you can figure that out yourself.

Believe me when I say I’m not pointing fingers or calling anyone out. God sent this word to me first because I’ve seen the condition of my heart lately, and it is not pretty. My belief tank is getting low. So how do I believe God again?

I “take captive every thought and bring [my mind] into submission to Christ” (2 Cor 10:5)

I “renew my mind” by thinking about what is “true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy” (Rom 12:2; Phil 4:8).

I “set my mind on what the Spirit desires” which is “life and peace” (Rom 8:5,6).

And I stop grumbling and start praising. Beloved, do you believe God? Do your words show it? What will you do about it?

“The Desire Level of Christian Life” 2/19/2024 Written by Bill Rudge for “Bill Rudge Ministries”

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

The Desire Level of Christian Life

MARCH 31, 2023

Bill Rudge

The Desire level is where we have a passion, hunger and thirst for the Lord more than anything else on earth. My relationship with Jesus Christ is more important to me and fulfills and satisfies me more than anyone or anything else—more than wealth, power, sex or any other temporary pleasure this world has to offer. All else is inferior to knowing Christ. I understand what the psalmist meant when he said, “Earth has nothing I desire besides You” (Psalm 73:25) and “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, my God” (Psalm 42:1).

The Lord is saying to you, “I have a deeper dimension for you. I have something that will satisfy you more than anything else you are seeking.” David said, “You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound” (Psalm 4:7).

Think about this! The greatest feeling in the world does not come from alcohol or drugs, from pornography or sex, from pleasure-oriented indulgences or from anything else the world offers. I have tried just about everything imaginable, and I can assure you, the greatest joy in the world comes from knowing everything is right between you and the Lord, desiring Him more than anyone else and wanting His will more than anything else. He is the ultimate fulfillment of all you need and wish! This is the Desire level God wants to bring you to.

Besides not wanting to be laughed at, a retired Marine confessed he had one other problem that kept him from accepting Christ. There were certain things he did not want to give up. He asked me, “How could you at such a young age of 18 give up your immorality, gambling, fighting and alcohol? Wasn’t that fun?” “Yes, it was fun,” I responded, “but I found something far more fulfilling. Besides, I am willing to sacrifice anything in this life to obtain that for which Christ has called me and to inherit what God has for me in the next life.” I continued, “If you really believe that God exists, then you should pursue Him with the same passion you pursue your fleeting pleasures. The Lord will put more joy and hope in your heart than any imaginable experience or than any other person.”

Jesus encourages us to replace temporal pursuits with goals of far greater importance: “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). The psalmist said it this way: “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

The Lord has taught me that I cannot coerce or manipulate Him into giving me what I want. However, if I delight myself in Him, seek to Honor His name and walk in obedience, He will grant the desires of my heart (because they will be His desires as well) and will abundantly bless beyond what I could ever ask or think.

During my times of fasting, I often pray: “Lord, do not let me attempt to manipulate You into what I want or think You should be, but reveal Yourself to me as You are. I want to know You. Make known to me who You are by Your Word and by Your Spirit. Cause me to submit and be conformed to who You are and what You require of me.”

When you “love the Lord your God with all your heart [innermost being and desires] and with all your soul [volition and will] and with all your mind [brain and intellect] and with all your strength [physical body]” (Mark 12:30), you remove anything that takes you away from Him. The Expositor’s Bible Commentary states concerning this verse: “God is to be loved completely and totally because He alone is God and because He has made a covenant of love with His people. In the covenant God gives Himself totally in love to His people; therefore He expects His people to give themselves totally in love to Him.”

Instead of pursuing a self-indulgent lifestyle that eludes fulfillment as does chasing the wind, pursue Jesus Christ through prayer and the study of Scripture. As you do, the temporary pleasures of this world fade in comparison to knowing Christ. You will gain a deeper revelation of Him and His glory by coming to know Him in a more real and intimate way. You will desire His will for your life and long for His Second Coming when He will rule and reign in righteousness, peace and joy for all eternity!

This Sunday at Church: Being intentional about adoration of God

February 4, 2024 by SLIMJIM

For this Sunday here’s what you can do: This Sunday at Church: Being intentional about adoration of God.

When we go to church one of our purposes should be worshipping God.  Worshipping God means we have adoration of God.  I think it is a worthwhile heart check that if you read this to be focused and intentional about having adoration of God.  God is worth adoring!

Pray to God about it before church service.  Pray to God about it during your travel to Church.  Pray with your family together before you enter church.

I have in the past written “The Struggle of Adoration towards God.”  If you have time, it is worth looking at.  May we adore the Triune God who work to save us!

“Don’t believe everything you hear or see”

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

1st Thessalonians 5:21

Many people today will believe everything they are told. They will believe most or all they see on television or hear on the radio. The Word of God tells us to prove, or to test all things, and hold fast to those things which are good. You see my friends; all things are NOT good. And all words are not fact.

When any group or organization, including religious groups and organizations, contradict the Word of God, we are to reject those creeds. We are to help and not hinder the work of the Holy Spirit. We do that by testing all things, holding on to the good, and throwing out the bad. God defines both the good and bad for us in His Word, the Bible. Trust HIM! NFL Super Bowl? Count me out.

Remember the Holy Spirit

… your good Spirit.

Nehemiah 9:20

Common, too common, is the sin of forgetting the Holy Spirit. This is folly and ingratitude. He deserves better from us, for He is good, supremely good. As God, He is good essentially. He shares in the threefold ascription of “Holy, holy, holy” that ascends to the Triune God. He is unmixed purity, truth, and grace. He is good benevolently, tenderly bearing with our waywardness, striving with our rebellious wills, quickening us from our death in sin, and then training us for heaven as a loving father trains his children. How generous, forgiving, and tender is this patient Spirit of God. He is good operatively.

All His works are good in the most eminent degree: He suggests good thoughts, prompts good actions, reveals good truths, applies good promises, assists in good attainments, and leads to good results. There is no spiritual good in all the world of which He is not the author and sustainer, and heaven itself will owe the perfect character of its redeemed inhabitants to His work. He is good officially: Whether as Comforter, Instructor, Guide, Sanctifier, Quickener, or Intercessor, He fulfills His office well, and each work is filled with the highest good to the church of God.

Those who yield to His influences become good; those who obey His impulses do good; those who live under His power receive good. Let us then act toward Him according to the dictates of gratitude. Let us revere His person and adore Him as God over all, blessed forever; let us own His power and our need of Him by waiting upon Him in all our holy enterprises; let us hourly seek His help and never grieve Him; and let us speak His praise whenever occasion occurs. The church will never prosper until it more reverently believes in the Holy Spirit. He is so good and kind that it is sad indeed that He should be grieved by slights and negligence’s.
