What Does Romans 8:11 Mean?

Posted by bruce r. mills for “God’s group”  www.Godsmanforever.com     [Revised from 8/05/2021]

“How Do I Know If the Holy Spirit Is in Me?”

Do you have the Holy Spirit living within you ??  If yes, then you are “born again” by God Himself…  Some religions believe you were “born again” when you were baptized as an infant…  My friends, this is not what the Bible teaches…  You are graced with salvation (born again), when you are justified by God Himself, and filled with the Holy Spirit…

Romans 8:9-10…  But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.  (NKJV)

Listen to this audio by Pastor John Piper, where he answers the question –  “How Do I Know If the Holy Spirit Is in Me?”

Audio link-  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK3tz3LDrb0

If you are not 100% sure you have the Holy Spirit living within you after listening to John Piper’s audio, I pray you open the link below where the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is presented…    You must seek Jesus Christ to be your personal Lord and Savior with ALL of your heart, mind, soul, and strength…  You will absolutely know you are saved by God’s grace alone, if you are filled with the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit will confirm that you are indeed a redeemed, “born again” child of God…

Romans 8:15-16…   For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,  (NKJV)

Gracious God and heavenly Father, I pray that You convict anyone who is not yet a “born again” Christian in Your eyes, to open the link below where the gospel of Your Son Jesus Christ is presented…  I pray that You draw these unbelievers to Yourself (John 6:44), and that they seek Your Son Jesus Christ with godly sorrow and a repentant heart, to become their personal Lord and Savior…  I pray for hearts and lives to be changed by You in the blink of an eye, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce

Matthew 6:33, New King James Version (NKJV) | The kingdom of god, Bible apps, Happy sabbath

SEEK HIM FIRST

October 24, 2023

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)

Simply put, to be righteous means to be in a state of right standing with God. And without that sense of right standing, which is ours because of what Jesus did at the cross, we can never truly know Him.

There are those who study the Bible to find some “secret formula” or “get-rich-quick” scheme so that their needs will be met. Truth be told, when you study the Bible so that you can know Him, you’ll discover that your relationship will put you in a position to have your every need met.

This is why Jesus said to first seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness; everything else would be added. The revelation that God wants to bless us is valid. However, some people have no desire to seek and know God; they only want what He will give them.

Others have never really entered into a knowing relationship with God. They know about Him, but they don’t know Him. And because they don’t know Him, they tend to believe things about Him that simply aren’t true.

I hear Christians say, “I don’t know God’s will for my life.” And I always tell them, “When you get to know Him, you’ll know His will for your life.”

Make the decision to seek God first, to study His Word so that you will know Him more intimately. When you seek Him to know Him, everything else you need will always follow.

Confession: Today I choose to set aside any “things” that I may have been seeking. I commit to seek God first, to know Him more intimately as I trust that the other things I have need of will be added to me.

Think Again

January 4, 2024 by Nancy Ruegg

As the new year makes its entrance, a fresh breeze of possibilities and dreams fills the mind:

  • Perhaps this year . . .
  • Wouldn’t it be wonderful if . . .
  • All things are possible with God, so . . .

But no sooner do I start finishing those statements with starry-eyed optimism, than some scratchy, irritating thoughts demand my attention.  Thoughts such as:

  • You’re too old, terribly unworthy, and underqualified.
  • You’ve already waited so long. Your desires obviously aren’t God’s desires for you.
  • You’ve hopelessly veered from God’s plan; otherwise life circumstances would surely be different.

And my heart cries out:

I need your Word, God, your Sword of the Spirit, to slay these lies. And though I am grateful for familiar sword thrusts like Romans 8:28, Jeremiah 29:11, and Philippians 4:13 to wield against the untruths listed above, a few new moves would surely increase my resolve. “Strengthen me according to your word” (Psalm 119:28b).

And God seems to say:

“All right, Nancy, let’s look at each statement from my viewpoint.

“You are too old? Not so. Moses was eighty when he became the leader of the Hebrew nation, bringing them out of Egypt and into Canaan. Daniel served as prime minister in Babylon well past the age of eighty. John was quite elderly when he received the Revelation. Age has nothing to do with usefulness.

“You are unworthy? Also not so. You are one of My chosen people, a royal priestess, who belongs to Me, the King of the universe (1 Peter 2:9a). Like all My children, you are precious and honored in My sight because I love you (Isaiah 43:4).

“You are under-qualified? All the better for My purposes! My G.R.A.C.E. (God’s Riches at Christ’s Expense) includes wisdom, power, strength, discernment, all spiritual gifts, all fruit of the Spirit, and more. My grace is more than sufficient for you; it’s all you need. In fact, “My strength comes into its own in your weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9 MSG).

“You’ve waited too long? Think again. Abraham waited 25 years for Isaac. Joseph waited seventeen years for his dream to come true. Caleb waited 45 years for his special parcel of the Promised Land.

“You’ve veered from My plan for you? Please refer to Ephesians 1:11. Your singular purpose is to display My glory, that is, my attributes of love, joy, goodness, and more. Wherever you are . . . “whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men” (Colossians 3:23). And remember: small acts can achieve important results also.

“One closing thought to keep in mind: There is method and reason to every decree I have judiciously ordained since the beginning of time, to accomplish My will according to My sovereignty. I AM the Almighty, all-wise God, your Heavenly Father.”

O God, help me to look toward 2024, not through the eyes of discouraging doubt but through the eyes of ever-increasing faith. And when I cannot understand, help me just to stand. In Jesus’ powerful name, Amen. *

God at the Center

JANUARY 17, 2024

People at the Cross of Jesus Christ

Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8 (NIV)

Is God the primary focus of your life? Do you trust in the Lord more than anyone else? Is He your be-all and end-all? Is He first and foremost in your life? Are you loyal to Him, swerving neither to the right nor the left? Do you hunger after Him, thirst for Him, long for Him, and search for Him? Is your inclination, your priority, and your energy centered on the will and purpose of the heavenly Father? Is your daily thought, “Take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to Thee”? And is it your prayer (as it was for Archbishop Laud) that you might live in fear of God, die in His favor, rest in His peace, rise in His power, and reign in His glory?

Changing gear . . .

Did you know that the shortest chapter of the Bible is Psalm 117, that the longest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 119, and that Psalm 118 is in the center of the Bible with 594 chapters before it and 594 chapters after it? Furthermore, when you add up all the chapters of the Bible you get 1188 which brings us to the center verse in the Bible – Psalm 118:8. And it’s in Psalm 118:8 that we discover God wants us to be centered on Him. For as it says in Psalm 118:8, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” (NKJV).

An invocation:

“Lord, deliver me from the small loyalties of habit or tradition that would keep me from larger loyalties of the spirit. Let me so incline myself to You that Your presence in my life determines both what I think and what I do. Through Jesus, who understood the deeper meaning of freedom. Amen.” John Killinger in A Devotional Guide to the Gospels.

AND THE HEAT IS ON!

Posted on August 21, 2023 by Pastor Randy

Yep! This is going to be our weather this week in Mt. Vernon, Alabama! Now before you Texans and Arizonans laugh at us Alabamians, you need to factor in this thing called the Heat Index. Heat Index factors in the humidity level; which here in Alabama runs anywhere between 100% and 376%. This means our feel-like temperature is somewhere between the temperature needed to boil water and hell’s front porch. This is why vehicles with black interiors are preferred; we don’t have to worry about someone hiding in the back seat. And you may wonder why I’m rambling on about temperatures; so I will tell you.

Just in case you haven’t noticed, the heat is on–on those of us who follow (or at least claim to follow) Jesus. The world is really looking at us because of what’s been happening (and continues to happen) in our nation and culture. And how we are reacting will determine whether or not this hot mess intensifies or not. In complete honesty, much of what I’m about to write I said in yesterday’s message. (If you care to watch and listen, click here)

When it comes to the problems we are facing–as a nation–or family–or community–or individually–there are only 4 ways to react and respond. And you will find your reaction and response in one of them:

  • We Can Be Indifferent. Being indifferent is living in an imaginary world.  Pretending there isn’t a problem doesn’t make the problem go away.  A few decades there was a group called The Silent Majority.  What they should have be called is The Indifferent Majority.  Not caring has led us to this point in history.
  • We Can Complain. This appears to be what most folks are doing these days.  Complaining is usually about blaming.  But since when does complaining change anything?  It doesn’t!  Never has and never will!
  • We Can Give Up. You hear this from people who want Jesus to come back right now.  Giving Up is what Satan wants you to do.  And it is the coward’s way out of accepting responsibility.  Yes, cowards give up.
  • Or We Can Follow God’s Plan. God cares!  God doesn’t sit on His Throne to Just Complain.  And God Never Gives Up!  If you think God has given up, then you are following, serving, and worshipping the wrong god!

God’s plan for today is the same one he gave through the prophet Jeremiah. It’s found in Jeremiah Chapter 29, Verses 1-24. God had been telling them to respond and react to their situation by Option 4–to turn their hearts and minds back to Him and His Plan for their lives–or they would be led away into captivity. Well, they thought that God would NEVER do that! Guess what? He did! And though they were living in Babylon, God still had a plan. And it’s THE Plan that will work for us today. Here it is:

  1. KEEP ON LIVING!

If you believe you are defeated, then you act like you’re defeated.  And when you act like you’re defeated, you live like you are defeated!  And you are defeated!  Pay attention to what God told Israel—because He’s telling us the very same thing! Look at and listen again to Verses 5 & 6—

Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce.  Marry and have children.  Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren.  Multiply!  Do not dwindle away.

People who show fear—influence others to be afraid.  People who show anger—influence people to be angry.  People who show despair—influence people to live in despair.  People who show frustration—influence people to live in frustration.  Get the point?  Great!

Our World Needs To See A People Who Are Unmoved And Unshaken By What’s Going On In The World.  Our world needs to see people who are confident and hopeful about the future.  And the only people that I know of—who can exemplify and model confidence and peace—are the people of God.  And why not?  God isn’t shaken up by what’s happening—remember, even though there will be 70 years of captivity for the Jews—God’s still got plans for them!  And His plans include a purpose found in the mess they are in—and the mess we are in.  We have every reason NOT to be shaken because—Folks, We Are Serving The Unshakeable God Who Specializes In The Impossible!

  1. PRAY AND WORK FOR GOD’S PEACE IN THIS LAND AND THESE TIMES!

Pray FOR people—and not against them.  If you pray against someone, you are praying to fail yourself.  Listen to Verse 7 again—

And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile.  Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.

Did you catch that last line?  I mean—Do You Really Understand What God Expects From His People In Times Like This?  Just in case you missed it—I’ll read it one more time:  For Its Welfare Will Determine Your Welfare.  We’re not here to create a Christian Nation—But To Be Kingdom Influencers For Jesus!

If you don’t pray for the PEACE of those causing the chaos, you won’t have any Peace either.  I’m going to tell you something based on my observations.  I don’t have a Gallup Poll or The Pew Research Center survey to back it up.  But here it is—for what it’s worth:  I’m Not Seeing Nor Am I Hearing A Lot Of This!  I hear a lot of complaining and blaming.  I’m seeing a lot of anger and frustration.

But God told Israel—and He’s telling us the same thing—To Pray And Work For The Peace And Prosperity Of Those Who You See As The Problem.

I’ll be the first to admit it—I don’t really want to do that.  I want to see them drown in the dribble they are putting out there.  But if I am going to take God seriously—and if I’m going to follow Jesus and be part of The Kingdom—then that’s exactly what I must do.  And so must you!

  1. MAKE SURE YOUR LIFE IS ALIGNED WITH GOD’S WORD!

We can’t expect our world to change if we are not willing to at least see if WE need to change.  God’s plan includes each and every person who calls themselves a follower of Jesus.  The only way we can know God’s Plans is if we are completely and constantly surrendered to Him! Look again at Verses 13 & 14—

“If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.  I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes.  I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”

I can’t speak for you—but I can speak for me.  OK?  It’s Easier To See The Flaws In People I May Not Agree WithThan It Is To See My Own Sins.  The thought and idea of a Casual Relationship with God—just doesn’t work for any of us.  Church, let’s admit it—We’ve Gotten Sloppy!  We are focused more on what’s out there—than WHO is up there on the throne in Sovereign Control of Everything.

When we put all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength into seeking God—I mean all of it—God will reveal Himself to us.  Even in Babylon—our Babylon—God is revealing Himself to people who seek for Him with their whole heart!  And in revealing His Presence—He Shows Us His Purpose:  The Redemption And Restoration Of Fallen And Broken People!

Back then, they were probably thinking that there would be a voice in Nebuchadnezzar’s court that would advocate for them.  I mean, he had chosen to incorporate into this palace staff some of those who had been led into exile.  They were hoping for a political solution.  And they were looking in the wrong place.

And it’s no different now.  Today People Are Looking For A Political Solution To A Spiritual Problem!  Looking for political solutions will only deepen the crisis—and hasten the collapse of our nation and our society.

Hear me out.  God’s Plan Doesn’t Have Anything To Do With Trump OR Biden.  God’s Plan Doesn’t Have Anything To Do With Any Political Party Or Candidate.  It Has Nothing To Do With Indictments Or What’s Happening In Washington, D.C.! It has everything to do with the Redemption And Restoration Of Fallen And Broken People!  God has always been about redeeming and restoring.

And since we can’t follow Jesus, We All Have A Next Step To Take:

  1. If you are indifferent, begin to care and care deeply!
  2. If you are indifferent, begin to care and care deeply!
  3. If you think the only solution is the return of Jesus, then change your thinking!
  4. Accept our responsibility to become the solution!

The Solution is simple—Be an example of the values of The Kingdom Of God!  Ever heard the expression:  “Be the change you want to see!”  Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?  But it’s a complete and total LIE!  Don’t be the change that YOU want to see.  Sometimes we see things the wrong way.  That’s why Jeremiah told them—and is telling us—to seek after God! For then—and only then—can we see life and people the way HE sees them.  Let me give you a different expression:

BE THE CHANGE THAT GOD WANTS TO SEE!

Changed in the Blink of an Eye

I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

1 Corinthians 15:50

We cannot enter God’s presence in heaven. We simply cannot do it—not as we are now, anyway. Our perishable, decaying bodies are not suited for an imperishable, undefiled kingdom.

By way of the new birth, we have already entered God’s kingdom spiritually (John 3:1-8). But ultimately, God will bring His kingdom in all its fullness, and He will reign forever over a new heaven and a new earth (Revelation 21:1). And, says Paul, we can’t get there as we are. We can’t simply show up there like this, for “flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.” We must be changed, not unlike a seed (1 Corinthians 15:42-49). When the seed is planted in the ground, it retains its identity, but it comes out radically and wonderfully different.

What does this mean? How will it happen? It is a “mystery,” Paul acknowledges (1 Corinthians 15:51). We cannot fully (or even mainly!) understand it. But we can identify at least three aspects of this change from this glorious chapter.

First, God will transform us instantly—“in the twinkling of an eye” (1 Corinthians 15:52). This will not be a process but a supernatural transformation, an instantaneous re-creation from one state to another. In that glorious moment, only as long as it takes us to blink, we—whether we are waiting in heaven with Christ or alive on earth (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17)—will be changed for the better, forever.

Second, God will change us radically: we “will be raised imperishable” (1 Corinthians 15:52). The one certainty of our life here is that it will end. All our earthly days were written in God’s book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:16). But in the instant God transforms us, He will radically change us, such that death and decay will be replaced with imperishability.

Third, God will refashion us eternally: we will “put on immortality” (1 Corinthians 15:53). There will be no risk of reverting to our former condition. “Death shall be no more” (Revelation 21:4), and our present state of decay will become but a memory.

Dwell on this truth for a moment: one day, God will transform you in an instant. He will change you radically. He will refashion you for eternity.

He will wipe away every tear from your eyes. Mourning, crying, and pain will all fade from view. It may be hard to imagine now, but in faith you can trust that your God will cause all the former things to pass away. And once He does that, you will dwell with Him forever in unending bliss. That is a truth that can enable you to smile on the hardest of days.

Questions for Thought

How is God calling me to think differently?

How is God reordering my heart’s affections — what I love?

What is God calling me to do as I go about my day today?

Does God really forget our sins?

ANSWER
There are several passages in the Bible that indicate that God forgives and forgets our sin. Isaiah 43:25 says, “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” Hebrews 10 explains how Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for sin was a once-and-for-all sacrifice. Unlike the sacrificial system of the Old Testament, in which sacrifices were continually made for sin, Jesus paid for sin once. His payment was complete. Hebrews 10:14–18 says, “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: ‘This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.’ Then he adds: ‘Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.’ And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.”

These passages make it evident that God does not remember our sins. However, God’s “not remembering” is not what we usually think of as forgetfulness. God is omniscient. He knows everything, and He forgets nothing. However, He can choose not to remember something. In human relationships, we can choose to remember the offenses someone has committed against us, or we can choose to forget. To forgive someone, we must often put painful memories out of our minds. We don’t actually forget the sin, and it’s not that we are unable to recall the offense, but we choose to overlook it. Forgiveness prevents us from dwelling on past troubles.

Rather than treating us as our sins deserve, God removes our sins from us “as far as the east is from the west”—an immeasurable distance (Psalm 103:12). Think of travelling around the globe. When does one stop going east and start going west? It is impossible to say. When we are saved, our sins are completely forgiven. This is what the writer of Hebrews is talking about—Jesus made a one-time sacrifice that completely removes our sin. In Christ, we are justified (declared righteous) before God. Romans 8:1 tells us there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Romans 8:31–39 is a beautiful discourse on our security in Christ. Sin has no say in our standing with God. We are fully accepted and declared righteous in Him. God does not remember our sins in the way He treats us. Instead, He treats us as righteous. Second Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made him who had no sin [Jesus] to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” In this way, God “forgets” our sins.

Even as Christians, we sin, but we know that God is faithful to forgive (1 John 1:9). God cleanses, and then He moves on. He does not hold our sins over us. Instead, He frees us from the slavery of sin and sets us free to experience a new life. Knowing the complete forgiveness of God in Christ, we can join King Hezekiah in praising our Redeemer: “You have put all my sins behind your back” (Isaiah 38:17). Like Paul, we can forget what is behind and “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called [us] heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13).

God’s Wisdom Saves Lives

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.

Proverbs 11:30

Today’s Scripture & Insight :

Proverbs 11:24–31

A mail carrier became concerned after seeing one of her customers’ mail pile up. The postal worker knew the elderly woman lived alone and usually picked up her mail every day. Making a wise choice, the worker mentioned her concern to one of the woman’s neighbors. This neighbor alerted yet another neighbor, who had a spare key to the woman’s home. Together they entered their friend’s home and found her lying on the floor. She had fallen four days earlier and couldn’t get up or call for help. The postal worker’s wisdom, concern, and decision to act likely saved her life.

Proverbs says, “the one who is wise saves lives” (11:30). The discernment that comes from doing right and living according to God’s wisdom can bless not only ourselves but those we encounter too. The fruit of living out what honors Him and His ways can produce a good and refreshing life. And our fruit also prompts us to care about others and to look out for their well-being.

As the writer of Proverbs asserts throughout the book, wisdom is found in reliance on God. Wisdom is considered “more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her” (8:11). The wisdom God provides is there to guide us throughout our lives. It just might save a life for eternity.

“WE ALL NEED JESUS – PART THREE” 1/18/2024 Written by Kathy Boecher for “atimetoshare”

WE ALL NEED JESUS – PART THREE

Posted on January 16, 2024 by atimetoshare.me

When I turned 21, my world seemed perfect. I was going to be married within a year. All the arrangements had been made. My father kept asking how many people were going to attend and kept a tally up until the day of the wedding, so he would know how much he’d have to fork over to the event center. I, on the other hand, was oblivious to anything other than finally becoming my own person. I still lived with my parents. I’d never lived on my own. I wanted my independence. During that year of waiting, the company I worked for was held up by two armed robbers. My life was now turned upside down. I was convinced that I’d never live beyond my 21st year. The thieves knew we had money on hand. I was the cashier on duty – the one they first approached. They ordered everyone to hit the floor, except for me. I struggled to open my cash drawer. The lock wouldn’t turn. My life flashed before my eyes. I knew I was going to die. Instead, I was told to get down on the floor and they broke the drawer open. I survived to tell this story.

There were many other tales similar to this one. For many years, I wondered how God could allow things to happen that made me anxious, frightened or worried. I knew He existed, but my image of Him was that of an angry, jealous God.  I was terrified of Him. Each Sunday, I’d watch our aging pastor rise to the pulpit and spew words that would add to my fear. At the end of each sermon of fire and brimstone, he would almost whisper, “but by the grace of God, you are saved.” The fear of God was growing inside me. I attended Christian schools all the way through my senior year in high school. I did what was expected of me, yet in the back of my mind, I never thought it as enough. I could never measure up to God.

The man I married is a great example of what a Christian life should be. I thank God every day that He placed Paul in my life. I would not have survived without him. I was easily swayed by what was happening in our world at that time. Racial injustice, women’s rights, war and rumors of more, declining economy and so many tough things to ponder at such a young age. There were little things being woven into the tapestry of my life that would eventually lead me to a real connection to a loving God. Things like watching the birth of my three children. Praying with them during a tornado that just missed our house. Seeing my husband build a business that would include Christian values and ethics. Being reminded by my oldest daughter how he would start each morning at work in prayer and devotion. She was witness to this when she worked for him one summer. These tiny things made a huge difference. Each one of those incidents was molding me along the way. Troubles came. Financial issues always seemed to top the list. We struggled to get through. Illness came too. Children were hospitalized a few times, and of course, there were many trips to the ER. Not to mention several possible death experiences for both my husband and me. It seemed this journey was shaping that frightened little girl into a woman of faith.

Through this life, I’ve learned that God is not a terrifying judge who has already determined my fate. I’ve learned to put my trust in Him to lead me in the right direction since I can’t do that alone. I’ve been so blessed to have a godly husband, who helped me to find Jesus. Whether we’re just little ones, who seem so innocent; middle-aged adults who struggle through life’s challenges and problems; or those of us in the “golden” years of aging – we all need Jesus. He is the true Son of God, who took on human flesh to become our brother, our friend, our Savior. He loved us so much that He died for us. Because He is also true God, He rose from death and promised to prepare a place for us in heaven. He’s always been there for me. I didn’t always recognize Him, but looking back, I can see times when He was right beside me all the way.

1 John 3:1ESV ”See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

“Just Show Up” 1/17/2024 Written by Dawn Ivey for “Drawing closer to Christ”

Just Show Up

Isaiah 30:18, “So the LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.”

Not too long ago, I was in a worship service and the worship leader shared with us that she felt the Lord impressing upon her heart that even the sound of our breathing was beautiful and pleasing to Him. Our Heavenly Father was delighted that we were there in His presence. It wasn’t all about the words we spoke or the songs we sang. It was about our very existence, the fact that we were living and breathing.

There are times when we may feel so overwhelmed with the cares of life, that we may not even feel like praying. And when we do pray, we may feel we do not know where to begin. Those are the times when we just need to show up because the Lord is waiting for us to come to Him so that He can show us His love and compassion.

Sometimes, just sitting quietly in His presence, brings the peace that our soul needs. The Holy Spirit knows exactly what we need to be encouraged in every circumstance. And He will supply those needs when we take a step of faith and just show up.

So the next time you feel overwhelmed and find it difficult to go to the Lord in prayer, just show up anyway. He understands your heart. His faithfulness, compassion and love are waiting for you. And remember, His love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8).

Blessings upon your week!
